Stay away!!

Happiness64834481548 on Jan 30, 2023

WARNING, do not come here! It’s terrible. The food sucks specially breakfast. This is the first vacation that we will loose weight instead of gain. The drinks also suck. Couldn’t get any top shelf tequila & the one they have gave me a bad headache.. staff is not friendly & there is no guidance on where things are so you have to figure them out on your own. I really don’t know how this place has four stars. The all inclusive fee is not cheap so I expect decent food but this is gross. If you booked here, cancel & find somewhere else to go!!!!!!

Sister’s vacation

Amy M (Leawood, Kansas) on Jan 30, 2023

The Sunscape is horrible. We checked in and our initial room had the electronics exposed in the outside keypad, no bathroom lighting, no weather stripping around the door and exposed wires in the outside hall leading to the room. I worked all afternoon to “upgrade” the room to something inhabitable. It cost me $400 and should have been free. The food is not good. The best thing about it is I did need to cook it and clean it up. Getting into a restaurant is also difficult. If you do not get in at first seating. you may not get to eat. Also, we tried to order room service twice, but it never came. Housekeeping did not restock our toilet paper. I had to go to the front desk to request more (even though I called and asked for more). This property has potential. The staff are nice. The beach is pretty. Management must be really bad.

Between and 3 and 4 Star Resort...

deb-terr (Brockville, Canada) on Jan 29, 2023

After reading many of the reviews posted in the fall of this past year 2022, I can now say that my husband and I were quite pleased overall with our experience at this resort. Like many others before us, we were also seriously wondering if we should have changed our choice of resort before we coming here! I We are so glad that we did not change our minds. Our room was Oceanview in the Seagull section, on the second floor. Although the room could definitely use some updating, it certainly was very clean and the air conditioning, the lock box, the TV and the Wifi all worked exceptionally well. Our king size bed was also super comfy! Although the bathroom was indeed quite small, with room for only one person at a time, it more than adequately met our needs. The shower was always hot and the bathroom floor was never ever flooded. Bath towels were replenished every day as were the toiletries. The also provided fresh wash clothes everyday! The balcony, however, was quite small and we were not able to put any chairs on it, even though the ocean view was spectacular! The daily maid service was also excellent as well as the replenishing of drinks in the fridge. In our opinion, Sunscape has by far the best snorkeling anywhere on the island as well as longest, sandiest and cleanest beach! My husband was in heaven. It was also never any problem for us to find a beach chair no matter what time of day that it was. We ate breakfast every morning at the World Café and always managed to find lots of healthy foods to choose from. There was a great abundance of fresh fruit, yogurt, vegetables, cheeses and meats available as well as a wonderful made-to- order omelette station. All of the very friendly servers made sure that you had a clean table to sit at with cutlery and serviettes as well as unlimited juice and coffee. However, we did enjoy the coffee much more from the lobby coffee shop as well as their treats! It is also true that there were many birds that were flying around in the World Café, as many of them could squeeze in through the wired mesh or enter by the doors as they were opened. Mind you, this did not present a problem for us at all as they never came near any of our food! We ended up eating most of our lunches at the Oceania restaurant as we thoroughly enjoyed their fish tacos as well as being right on the beach. Their customer service was excellent. We were also able to enjoy many delicious meals in the evening at the Japanese (very easy to get a reservation especially if you choose to go earlier!), Bluewater Grill, and Oceania restaurants! My husband especially loved Bluewater's mixed grill and I loved the Japanese Sushi and Oceania's fresh fish. It was also fun to take the local bus for $2.00 US into Wiliamstad to go shopping, to eat out for lunch, to go to the local market ( remember to barter!) and to visit the local tourist attractions. Hopefully you will get to see the swinging bridge open up while you are there. This something that we did a couple of times because we enjoyed it so much. We did not really participate in any of the organized recreational activities as we mostly just wanted to relax . All in all, we would rate this family resort as being between a 3 and 4 stars, depending on your interests and needs.

Terrific holiday spot

We went in with low expectations after reading the fall reviews and were pleasantly surprised! We loved our stay! The resort is small and easy to navigate with a beautiful beach where we could snorkel in clear water seeing all kinds of marine life. Our room was a part of the Sun Club in the two story building 3, which is literally right on the beach. It was spacious, clean, nicely decorated and the AC worked fine. Although people commented that they had difficulty securing chairs we never ran into that problem. They seemed to hold back some chairs to put out around 11am, so people couldn't reserve them with their towels earlier. We found the food good to very good depending on the day or restaurant/buffet you went too. For example, we were with a large group for a destination wedding, so on one day a group of 6 people waited 90 minutes for breakfast at the Italian Restaurant, but when we went it was only a 20 minute wait. I would recommend trying them all and be patient if necessary. Our favourite was the buffet which had a changing variety of food at every meal. Everything we ate was tasty. Highlights were the steamed fish, ribs, goat stew, nachos and salad bar. The bartenders were mostly all fun and friendly. The lobby bar seemed to have the shortest wait time as well as the Sun Club pool area bar. I think 10 minutes was our longest wait time but most were around 5 minutes. We only had one poor server the whole time but one of the others (Verona) took over our table and all was good. The staff was super friendly and helpful in every area of the hotel! Reviews talked about a shortage of cutlery, beach towels, wash cloths, and toilet paper but we didn't run into that at all. We used the gym which had a variety of quality equipment. The tennis courts were in a poor state but good enough that we played 3 times during our stay. We didn't make it to the Spa. Were were given credit to use at the Spa, but be careful what you apply it too, as not all the services qualify for the credit. My daughter was disappointed that when it came to paying that she couldn't use her credit towards a 25 minute massage....There was a very good variety of activities during the day ( I did bingo, rifle range and aqua aerobics mostly) and the shows/parade we attended were lively and fun. The wedding was beautiful and stress free and according to the bride everything went well with the planning and execution of it. We were able to walk into Wiliamstad in about 50 minutes, but there is a bus stop right out side the hotel. We would recommend the Free (work for tips) 2.5 hour Walking Tour of Williamstad. Our hotel was a 5 minute walk to the very commercialized and crowded Mambo Beach. It wasn't your favourite place but others in our group enjoyed the night life and restaurants. Your can rent a car from the hotel or from the yellow building across the street just past the tennis courts. Book ahead to avoid disappointment. We rented a jeep for a day which was lots of fun and a good vehicle to drive on the bumpy roads. We visited Shete Boka National park, Playa Piskado (to swim with turtles), Playa Lugun, Playa Knip, the Salt Flats (flamingo habitat) and the Curacao Distillery all in a long day of adventure. A shout out goes to some of the staff we found exceptional - Ana (buffet restaurant), Verona (server), Norma (bartender), Whyett (food manager), and Nini (Sun Club).
