This hotel is amazing, we met alot of great staff particularly an amazing lifeguard on the beach named Zeneyde, he made my family feel extremely safe and comfortable. Always watching and willing to share his knowledge of the country and of the ocean, please if you visit say hello! The view was amazing and rooms were excellent! Will definitely return next year even if it's just to say hello to our great friends!

Great Gran Muthu Experience!

I am a part time travel agent who had already sent a handful of clients to this resort and they all said wonderful things. I decided it was time I try it for myself and I am so glad we did! We came to the Almirante with 6 of our friends and everyone had a wonderful time. The resort is fairly new, I believe just having celebrated their 1 yr anniversary in December. It is fresh and modern and the design of this resort was on point. The main building which houses the lobby, with 24hr lobby bar, disco, buffet, 2 a la cartes, a games room, cigar bar, gym and more. This building is equipped with elevators. I don't know if the other buildings had elevators or not, so if you have mobility issues I might suggest requesting a room in building 5. Our group stayed in building 5, 2 couples in standard garden view rooms, and they were quite pleased with their accommodations. We stayed in a Junior suite, ocean view room, (thank you Gran Muthu). It was a beautiful room, with an incredible view of the ocean, front and center as you stepped on to the balcony. The room was equipped with a larger than life King size bed, which was super comfortable. Double closets, and dresser drawers, robes and slippers. We had bottled water supplied in our room daily. The bathroom had double sinks, a jacuzzi tub and rain shower. The hot water was plentiful (other than for a brief time one evening), but it was on a hot day, after a number of 'coochie coochie's' and a cold shower did the trick! For those of you curious - a coochie coochie was lemonade, rum and blue coracao. Delish. The resort is the perfect size in my opinion. A less than 5 minute walk got you to the beach or pool area. The pool has a number of bali beds that were lovely if you got there in time to use them. There are signs telling guests that they are not allowed to "reserve" these beds, however on occasion people would. If you need/want a shady spot on the beach or by the pool you had no choice but to get up early to reserve a spot. From my balcony I watched people as early as 630 am with their towels in hand heading to save their spots. One suggestion for the resort would be more palapas and loungers for the beach given almost all spots are taken before 10am. There is not however a lack of sitting areas at this resort. Along walk ways, there are tables and chairs where you can stop and enjoy the scenery, a drink or an ice cream (there is a little spot to grab a soft ice cream cone by the 24hr snack bar). Entertainment was ok too, Every night they did have a show in the theatre, early evening they had singers and performers in the lobby as well who were really quite good. The 24hrs snack bar had Karaoke every night, which is fun, whether you like to sing or sing along, or just watch. The entertainment team were fun, I wish I remember people's names but they all did a wonderful job at getting guests to participate in games and challenges around the pool, they did aqua-size in the pool which was fun, games for kids, and events at the beach as well. On Wednesdays they do a Cuban day, they roasted a couple of pigs, had traditional music, and drinks. Thursdays are Canada day on the beach. They had chicken wings and poutine, and a Canada flag cake. They did fun challenges on the beach. The food, this is the #1 complaint I always hear about Cuba. I can't speak for other resorts, as I do know of other people who went to different resorts in Cuba recently and had a poor experience. But here at the Gran Muthu, we never felt like we were lacking. Yes, there were a few things we didn't have - no potatoes and very little lettuce, but they get very creative with what they do have. Fruits we had were mango, guava, papaya, banana, and pineapple. No yogurt this week, but it didn't phase any of us. There was plenty of food to choose from. There was always chicken, fish, pork, some beef at the buffet, although I think they save their beef for the a la cartes. We even had lobster at the buffet one night. The food was always flavourful and as I said, we never felt like we lacked anything. The 24hr snack bar serves, burgers, chicken sandwiches, ham and cheese, and fries. Ask for the Almirante burger - it has cheese and an egg on top - so good. Coffee there is delicious. At the buffet we would ask for a cafe con leche, which was so good. Lobby bar made the best cappuccinos and spanish coffees. One thing I will also say is that the staff, aside from being extremely friendly, (despite some obnoxious Canadians, sorry to say), spoke English very well, and some even spoke French. They are very prepared for Canadian tourists. All in all we loved our time here and would love to return! I've already booked another 13 people to visit this resort since I've been back and I have no doubt they will love it as well. Thank you all at the Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort for a wonderful week!
Cuba Dream Vacations

My second stay since hotel opened. Both 14 days. Had a wonderful time both vacations. I have no negative things to say. The staff are all great and go above and beyond to keep the visitors happy. The girls in the lobby bar and buffet are always there quick to help you. The guys at pool bar do a great job keeping up with people lounging around their area. I will be back in April 23 for another great vacation.

Very nice resort, relatively small so you can get anywhere rather quickly. We liked that. Modern, since it is new, no "dated" feeling. We booked a ticked for the Adults section and apparently that made us VIPs (I don't recall if I chose something special when buying the ticket to make us VIPs). Being VIPs meant we had our own restricted area and the A la carte restaurant which we could access when open (it functions like a buffet but you order from the menu and, yes, if you are that hungry you can order more, provided you are there early so it does not close). I've read reviews about the food being bad in Cuba, so we went with low expectations. We were wrong. For VIPs the food was amazing. Just an example: Benedict eggs with lobsters slices in the morning. Being VIPs, we had 2 butlers, although we interacted 99% with only one of them, Adel, who is a real professional. I cannot say enough about this guy. Whatever / whenever we needed, he took care of it and then some. A++ Beach: amazing (granted the weather cooperated). Some say the water is shallow (it is not; it drops quite quickly, but still nice). Pools: nice, a bit cold in the adults section, I did not mind one bit Cleanliness: spot on! no complains here, everything spic and span. Room: almost 5 star level amenities, clean, spacious. Cleaned and attended twice a day. Wifi: had some problems trying to stay connected, but I did not go there to "stay" connected. If you really need to "socialize", maybe it is a good idea to buy a roaming package. Entertainment: did not go that often to the theatre but everywhere else, whoever was playing/singing knew what they were doing. I'll stop here. If you can, go for the adults only option, maybe wait for a sale. You'll not regret it going to this resort. Don't believe all the reviews (including mine), take them with a grain of salt. And manage your expectations. We went there for the beach and sun, not expecting much else and we were blown away (pleasantly).
