Perfect week on a beautiful resort!
GrandTour03268776671 (Montreal, Canada) on Jul 02, 2022
I had a perfect week at this hotel. The staff is great, the animation team is so much fun! They had a special event on the beach for Canada day with music and food. I had my caricature done by a talented artist and had lunch with some of the sweetest staff members. I'm definitely going back!!
Beautiful first solo trip!

First I just have to say I just read a review where an American visitor was complaining about not being able to use their American linked credit cards…ummm take that up with your government as it has nothing to do with Cuba and everything to do with the USA! Did you not research before you travelled to Cuba? Anyway, I also saw the same person complain about food shortages. Again do some research before travelling! Cuba has gone through a really tough time due to the pandemic and they are struggling with shortages. That said, I personally found the food to be good and there was always something for me to eat. The fruit was delicious. Mango is yum! The breakfast buffet is very good. Omelets and pancakes and lots of fruit and pastries. Lunch and dinner was a little repetitive but that is pretty typical of all inclusive resorts imo. I didn’t get a chance to try the A La Carte restaurants. Definitely next time. I also saw same person complain about only Canadians being allowed one day at the snack bar…also not true. They just have a “Canadian Theme Day” where they celebrate Canadian visitors but all are still allowed to eat and drink. I travelled alone as a single woman and felt safe at all times. Everyone was lovely and helpful and so hard working. Wifi is free and works great even in your room. You just have to renew it after a few hours - easily done at the lobby. If you remember to sign off each time you use it it will last longer. The room, grounds and beach are phenomenal. So beautiful! Definitely visit the roof top bar for a premium drink with Antonio. It’s not inclusive up there but fully worth it and the view is breathtaking. The shows were great! The water ballet was beautiful! The Cuban Day show was my favourite. Some very talented performers! I’ll definitely return to this area and hotel. My last day I did a farewell tour to Holguin which included a visit to the La Loma de La Cruz (Hill of the Cross), tour of downtown Holguin and dinner in a local restaurant. The city was experiencing a power outage and they still managed to prepare a wonderful dinner for us. I would really recommend this tour. If you book with sunwing just see your rep in the lobby of the hotel. I love Cuba…I make sure to tip well and bring lots of gifts for the people I meet. They go out of their way to make sure you have a nice vacation and times are tough for them…share what you can! Personal care items are always appreciated. As for tips they accept usd and cad cash…just make sure the bills are in good condition. They cannot cash them in at the bank if they are damaged. Also to my Canadians as in all countries we travel to you cannot use your coins…loonies and toonies! This is not just a Cuba thing. I had a couple of workers ask me if I minded exchanging the coins they accumulated for some bills. My suggestion is to bring Cad 5s and a stack or Usd 1s if you can. The beach is public…personally I like that! I like to see locals enjoying themselves. It’s their beautiful country after all. Nobody really bothers you and if they do approach you a simple no gracias works wonders. The sunshade area is however just for hotel guests so if you sit there you won’t interact with locals. The beach is clear and beautiful! I may have already said that haha. I’ve been to Varadero and it was gorgeous there and it’s just as nice here plus you have mountains and greenery nearby. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality Gran Muthu Almirante staff!
