So we chose this resort because a friend told us. Apon arrival its great, go grab a beer while waiting for check in at lobby bar.we had an ocean deluxe room we upgraded when we arrived cost $165 USD. Beach is clean drops off fairly quickly. Its rocky in areas but perfect for swimming and u can walk to the other resort. Lots of chairs at beach and pool no need to panic and get up early. We put towels out at 10am. Pesos are no longer wanted, the only place we used them was Guardalavaca beach to buy mohitos. The market takes USD or Canadian only. For tipping we used small USD bills and $5 canadian bills, they dont want pesos. The horse and buggy ride to guardalavaca was $40 uSD but we never bargained. Its 4km and can get a taxi or rent a scooter$25USD. The food was limited, they dont have alot right now due to season. No fruit except apples, sometimes papaya. We found breakfast good and ate lunch at the beach bar. Get the burger its amazing. Late night pizza at the pool bar is good and open 24hrs. There is nightly entertainment and then a disco from 11-2am with a dj. Tip these guys good because they hardly see any patrons. If you are looking to give stuff the maids in lobby and gardeners dont see alot and are appreciative of, medicine, vitamins, razors, shoes, cell phones, jeans, socks, underwear, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant. We basically gave the lobby maid cleaner all of our toiletries when we left. Even our 1st aid kid. There are alot of tiny lizards all over the resort. The view from the pool is amazing and beach is not far. Free wifi but mostly it worked in our room, some got it in the lobby. We did the catamaran excursion $69USD each. Was alot of fun and held starfish and sea urchins as well as lots of fish to see. With amazing lunch. Overall all adults mostly from ontario and some germans there. People were friendly. I would definetly go back. Food is the same after awhile but its the beach u go for. They also had no pina colada mix, but instead we had mohitos or rum cream or rum and coke. No big deal, make the best while u are there. ENJOY You wont be dissapointed.

My new gem in Cuba!

yainier1982 (Glendale, California) on Dec 04, 2022

Rio de Oro, I cannot express how happy I am with the memories I lived surrounded by the most beautiful gardens, Esmeralda's turquoise waters and caring people pampering me and my family every single minute. It's a piece of heaven on earth! I booked my five-day trip with Solways ( great price and no issues). Reservations Dept took care of all our requests prior to arrive at the resort. Welcome cocktail was a plus and a surprising touch that we really appreciated. Rooms were ready at early check in. Our three rooms were perfectly located and well decorated. The resort is very intimate and meticulously taken care of ( lush gardens, pieces of art everywhere-paintings, sculptures, variety of arquitectural patterns) all in perfect harmony with mother nature. It's an ecological resort after all. Customer service is topnotch. Everyone is smiling and welcoming. Something called my attention during my stay and Marine ( CS Dept), addressed my concern right away in a very professional way. Thank you so much, Marine! We really appreciated your time and courtesies. Meals were tasty, well presented and varied. Beach, pools and entertainment were great as well. I hope we can visit again soon! Do not hesitate to book this resort, please! Paradisus Rio de Oro won't disappoint you!

Paradisus Rio De Oro never fails to deliver. It was my third stay, first since the pandemic and was happy to be back. Our rooms were excellent and large, the food at the a la carte's were good and best of all, lunch at the beach restaurant was great: excellent food and drink, live music on some days, great ocean view and super staff at the restaurant and bar down below: Roberto, Greysis, Lisbett, Elizabeth, Irima to name a few (and excuse my spelling if mistaken). They were always friendly, professional and attentive. The resort has many repeat visitors who might come several times in a year. Thank you to all the staff! In the afternoons I set up my temporary "office" at one of the shaded tables near the beach bar. Nice to place to work and think, with a great view, and the odd cold Crystal from tap. Front desk staff are terrific and always helpful. For World Cup fans, a large screen and viewing area was set up near the lobby bar and attracted quite a crowd when games were on. If you are thinking of going to Cuba for vacation, Paradisus may not have the best food on the island, but it's location is fabulous. It's surrounded by nature, hills and the beach is really great: no seaweed, great sand, calm waters and best of all, a relatively healthy reef which you can snorkel from shore (no excursions necessary). Hint: bring a flotation device such as a snorkel vest or a noodle as the better part of the reef is out a bit, and you should always have a floatation device for safety reasons or to save a fellow swimmer. I've snorkeled the beach over a 15 year period and the size and quantity of fish has significantly declined. I used to see barracuda regularly, now none. About a kilometer away is a nature hike in an official nature reserve (walk over the bridge, past the Sol resort and its straight there). Bring a credit card to pay the small admission price). The hike is around a half hour plus and offers scenic views of the beach and lots of 'jungle'. In terms of the actual set up of the resort, the pool, lunch restaurants and beach are minutes away by foot and you can see the ocean when in the pool. Also, all the a la carte restaurants and buffet restaurant are minutes from the central bar area in the lobby which is nicely designed and feels gorgeously tropical. Vegetation on the resort is lush with lots of palm trees. Birds galore and even the odd tarantula. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been some changes at Paradisus. Best of all, finally, the internet. I found it worked fine in the room, not so great moving around the resort, and I had to constantly retype a complex name and password to gain access. Also cell phone access is very good, and local Cubans are on their phones constantly just like back home. While the quality of the staff 'service' has been the same - very good, there are some supply chain issues such as no French Fries at the resort. There's been a shift from a mix of imported food to mostly Cuba sourced food. For me, it was all good. If you're a 'fussy eater', the resort may not be for you. The clientele was mostly Canadians and to lesser extent Germans. I didn't meet any people from the UK. I noticed the 'excursion charter' desks were all for Canadian outfits: SunWing, AC and Air Transit. The fall crowd was more mixed in terms of age, with lots of younger people. On money, no more funny convertible peso. For tipping, exchange funds at the little bank at the resort for pesos (small notes like 50s and 100s). Official tourist charges must be on credit or debit card (not cash), although when leaving at the airport it Canadian dollars in cash reigned supreme, no pesos and no credit cards. So make sure you bring foreign currency in cash as you will have two hours to kill at the airport. Lastly, the resort had no plastic cups only small paper cups, so bringing one of those drink cups is probably a good idea (like a coffee flask, not a tacky beer mug). Lastly, Cuba is having its economic issues these days. We heard of rotating blackouts, yet during our week, we had none to deal with. I always appreciate resorts/hotels where staff make an extra effort. Lots of that at Paradisus.

A Great Resort

d e on Nov 30, 2022

We were a group of 17 family and friends, and all of us would agree that this place was fabulous! Our suite was well maintained, clean and spacious. The resort is well laid out, gym space was great, spa was zen like, and the lobby bar was a perfect space for gathering. I have to mention how much fun the pool activities were. The crew was great in organizing us for aqua aerobics, salsa lessons, and water volleyball. Special thanks to Vasti, for her energy and the enthusiasm she brings to her work. She makes everyone feel special from the mid morning poolside activities to the night time dancing after the evening stage show. She made our stay special. Thank you ??Vasti. And I want to add a special shout out to all on the activities team. Well done day and night. I also want to bring attention Carlos (“my last name is at your service”) for his great service and care to make sure we were looked after. Thank you Delmis for helping me get that salsa turn right ??. To Lianis our wonderful server in the buffet, we were so upset to hear about you mom. We never got to say goodbye. Your colleagues in your area took good care of us when you were away. It takes a great team to make this all work and I think Paradisus De Oro resort has got it right. Daniela & Barry
