Ala Moana Hotel by Mantra is undergoing exterior spalling, repair and painting work throughout the building with an expected completion by March 2023. Some noise may be expected throughout this project, all efforts will be made to minimize any impact to guests.
The location if this place is very nice but the overall condition of the room, slow check in and service make this place not worth the $200+/night most will have to pay after taxes and fees. The overall amenities are decent, but it has limited dining, no hot tub, and very few shops to get things from.

This was a last minute getaway and our first time at this hotel. Had always wanted to stay here. It was a very convenient location for buses, convenient location next to the mall and walking to Waikiki and the local neighborhoods for good eating places. The hotel staff member at check in could have been better at informing us about what was at their hotel instead of chuckling and saying there is no map of things or an info sheet, and just that they’re 2 towers. Well I knew that, I would have preferred having him share things about the hotel as a first timer. Usually hotels would have information about their restaurant, cafe, pool/spa information, etc, so we felt a bit lost. Their bar was not even in operation yet, and their pool area which we saw the last day still looked like in renovation. They have a side door into the hotel which does not work but you can exit, making it a nuisance to walk all the way to the main lobby entrance. Not sure if this is normal, but the room’s carpet was still wet from shampooing I would think; I took off my shoes and wondering why my socks were wet. The partial ocean view room did not allow for me to open the sliding door which was disappointing and had to stand to enjoy the view or slouch down in a chair to look out having a “balcony fence bar” in the viewing way. Sure wish I knew this before I spent extra for partial ocean view room 1254, nice view of Ala Moana Center parking lot. Our second day here, our room keys did not work as we tried to get into our hotel room, but it did work in the elevator just prior. The next day the toilet which was having trouble flushing when we first arrived at the hotel, decided not to work; we luckily got in touch with a lady in housekeeping at 4pm to try to contact maintenance to fix it. We did not want to wait all evening so we left the room hoping that they would fix while we went for dinner. Came back at 10;30pm and still was not fixed, so called maintenance to come fix it which they came in 10 minutes or so just to use a plunger. Even housekeeping could not lend me one them self for me to originally try to fix myself at 4pm. The walls are thin and very annoying especially at 6am in the morning with people talking on their cell phone, yelling, talking loudly in the hallway, or at someone’s door, having conversations. The experience staying at this hotel was not going well, we were ready to leave on our 4th day. Pretty sad customer service, no warmth or Aloha, just feel like a “number,” or a business traveler, unfortunately our bad experiences reminds us of a stay at a Hyatt years ago, paying very high prices and never to return again.
