I should’ve read the reviews prior to booking, but this was booked a week prior to departure and I was in a rush. Like other reviews mention, this so not a traditional hotel but rather buildings of individually-owned condos. I booked through booking.com and this went through Aston reservations. We were initially placed in F304, which was super rundown and old, but I thought the whole place was like that, we were in Hawaii, and we can always drive to the beaches. The family was afraid to touch anything though, and we always expected a cockroach to crawl out of holes in the walls. Oh, and the bedroom doesn’t have A/C, and the one in the living area has a timer so that you can’t run it the whole night. The unit probably wasn’t remodeled ever since the place was built, which I guess was in the 1970s or 80s. Some other review from several years ago mentioned a crotchety old man next door - he’s still there and still crotchety, still insists on leaving his door open and talking loudly at any time of day or night.
The last drop was when I opened the dishwasher on day 2 and it was literally rusty inside, with some of the plastic wire falling off due to rust. Made a noise and we got moved to L304. That was night and day - the new unit was recently remodeled, new appliances everywhere, clean. The rest of the stay was good, but we didn’t use any of the resort’s facilities.
As others mentioned - the people at the front desk are only there to hand out keys and are otherwise intermediaries between guests and Aston, not empowered to make any decisions.
Oh, they also charge $1 for each packet of laundry detergent and insist on cash. When I said that the tea kettle in the unit was rusty and I asked for a new one, they suggested I use the coffee maker to boil water for tea…
In short, the place is OK if you drive everywhere and don’t expect any service. Otherwise look for something else.
Great Stay Unit A104
(Avila Beach, California)
Aug 02, 2022
We hosted our family , 6 adults and 3 children under two in Three ocean front units. Unit A104 afforded us a great stay. The Host Terry, kept in touch with us prior to our stay making sure she was available to answer any questions, and to do her best to make sure everything was perfect for our arrival. Because one daughter was still nursing , she made sure that even though check in was late afternoon, and we had early flight. We had access to the refrigerator to store baby items.
The unit was well stocked, clean and inviting. This unit was recently updated with beautiful kitchen cabinets, and appliances.
The bed was very comfortable.
The view was spectacular, and close to pool.
We will for sure book this unit again.
