Easy access to beautiful & swimmable south shore beach

ArianaPDX (Portland, Oregon) on Nov 22, 2021

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone interested in swimming at one of the loveliest beaches in southern Kauai. We stayed in the Villas across the street from that beach the rest of the hotel borders. While our studio room was quite small, it was comfortable and had a deck with a partial ocean view and easy walking access to the beach and adjacent pool. The hotel's also just a few minute drive to the famous for snorkeling Poipu beach, which you can reach via a longer walk along the shore. We arrived in the morning and hotel staff let us check in early so we could more easily start our day because a room happened to be ready, which we greatly appreciated. Staff were very responsive and courteous throughout our 3 night stay. Thank you Sheraton for a great time in Poipu!

What a view and great location

Kurt T on Nov 13, 2021

From the beginning we knew it was going to be a great stay. Was greeted as a platinum member and given a nice gift for our anniversary. Our room overlooked the ocean and was plenty large enough. Very clean and able to get drinks by the pool at the near by bar. Breakfasts were great. Would go back for sure. The activity person set us up on a great trip and told us of hikes to take. There is a shopping area within walking distance from hotel and places to eat if you want to get off property.

BEST Location, Wonderful Hotel and Friendly Staff!!

Carlsbadhappy (San Diego, California) on Nov 10, 2021

Everything here was top notch!!! Staff at reception was exceptionally helpful in working with us to find the best room location within our category. They were friendly and welcoming and allowed us to go to our room as soon as it was cleaned even though it was before the stated check-in time. We were given a box of chocolate covered macadamia nuts upon arrival....not sure if those are for everyone or just Bonvoy members? The room was in great condition and had a spacious, full on ocean view. Rooms over the rocky shore are a close walk to the sand beach area and they have the best sunset view! Near those buildings are fire pits and Adirondack chairs overlooking the water. Buildings across the street have their own pool and BBQs. There is a very large pool with a separated shallow area and a jacuzzi. Housekeeping staff was friendly too. ALL staff was friendly in fact! A very important feature here was the swimmable, sandy shore beach!!! We have found that there are some sandy beaches on Kauai but many of them are posted as dangerous swimming conditions with warnings about injuries. Most of the shore seems to be rocky however so you can't even safely venture in up to your waist. At most hotels and condos you would need to drive to a swimmable beach. There is also a walking path in either direction from the hotel which I used every morning. I often saw sea turtles on my morning walks. We would highly recommend this hotel as the most usable and desirable overall location we've seen on Kauai

Best Hotel of 4 Islands

WoodlandsMike (The Woodlands, Texas) on Nov 07, 2021

We island hopped to four Hawaiian Islands and this was by far our favorite hotel. Had an oceanfront king suite just feet from the beach, pool and restaurants. Great evening sunsets and fire pits. Food and drinks at Lavas were awesome along with the friendly helpful staff throughout the beautiful resort. No resort fees and free convenient parking.

Not up to the normal Marriott Quality

Paradise471121 on Nov 01, 2021

My wife and I spent 5 days on property(both over 70) and were very disappointed for several reasons. 1) We arrived about 7 PM and were tired (traveling all day) and asked where to eat and told the Run Fire was on property and good. Only thing good about Rum Fire was .... well nothing - WAY, WAY over priced. 2) Asked concierge about a Luau and was booked into the Luau at Royal Sonesta Kauai Resort (another Marriott Vacation Property) to a Luau by Luau Hawaii. The WORST luau ever. Wrote separate review on it. Was indoors, poor dancers, mediocre food, one skimpy drink. Marriott needs to NOT recommend guests to this Luau unless then want negative reviews 3) Found out that the main pool was closed (closed 5-7 days before we got there), too late to make any schedule changes. I expected some compensation back but nothing received. 4) Asked Concierge about helicopter and they booked with their 'buddies' that would have had 6 of us jammed together. Instead, we booked ourselves in Monna Loa Helicopters as a private charter for only the two of us and it cost 25% less than the charge from Marriott. Seems like concierge more interested in financial rewards/kickbacks than customer requirements/service. Bottom line - this property not up to the normal Marriott standards. Would not stay here again if at the same price. Lots of better properties on the island for less money.
