Wonderful return visit to the Garden Island! Kauai is like a second home to me! Islander is so centrally located on the east coast ... wonderful shopping near-by! Staff is kind and appreciative of your presence.
Has all the features, but more casual and welcoming

We were very happy with the ocean front room and kitchenette, beach & lounges, pool, spa tub, and laundry. Friendly staff. Clean property. All the comforts and treats of tropical vacation, without the off-putting exclusivity and crowd of a huge resort. Convenient location (except for traffic times), with Island Country Market (ABC) just off property (along with nice strip-mall shops and probably a restaurant or two in Coconut Marketplace). Get your coffee at Imua adjacent to the main lobby building. Dinner at the next property north (Hukilau Lanai) was excellent. We didn't get a chance but would have tried Lava Lava Beach Club grill on the other side of the property. It's a humid place with great ocean breezes - fresh air was much better than the A/C, which we suggested they sanitize to reduce a mildewy smell. Gotta love those trade winds though! Property faces Lihue toward the south, so the sunrise is on the left when you're facing the ocean. Stargazing between fast-moving clouds was still quite good. Try to do the walk up the Sleeping Giant at least part way to get a view back over Kapa'a and Wailua - we used the East Trailhead. We would happily stay at the Aston Islander on the Beach again.
