Nice Stay

mariannebB6590DL on Feb 01, 2023

We stayed at the Royal Decameron in January. We were happy with our choice. This hotel isn’t a high end hotel but it is great value for your money. It is a smaller resort which we prefer. We also were happy with the location of the hotel. Seemed like a nice area. You can walk to San Jose Del Cabo, it is 3.3 KM to the town square. Some interesting stores along the way. Don’t miss Art Walk in the main square in San Jose Del Cabo on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The hotel grounds are really nice, with cactuses scattered around. The rooms all face into a courtyard. Nice views, we could see the ocean partially from our balcony. We were on the 3rd floor. The only downside is that in the evenings the entertainment was in the courtyard. There was loud music or karaoke from 9 - 10 pm. The food we thought was pretty good and the drinks that we had were good as well. The staff were very nice and helpful. We spent a lot of time at the adult only pool, which is located up above the gym. Great views of the ocean, beach and coastal line from the adult only pool. We took our binoculars and saw whales off in the distance. The ocean was to rough to swim in, even though we did see some people swimming. All in all we had a great week. We would recommend it.

We Enjoyed It

TracyDeniel (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada) on Jan 30, 2023

My husband and I just returned from a week here. We are not very picky or accustomed to fancy places, so it was fine for us. The place is kind of old, but we found it to be very clean. The staff members were all very friendly and helpful. The grounds were kept nicely and the ocean is very pretty, although not swimmable. The food was average and comparable to what we have had at other resorts. It was not kept hot and that could be improved. There is one fancier restaurant but reservations must be made very early, and although it shows as full, there are only a few tables being used. The resort has wifi but it was very spotty and frustrating. The energy level is quite low because it’s a smaller resort. There are plenty of pool chairs and always food/drinks available at at least one place. As mentioned by others, the drinks are very weak. There is a grocery store across the street, but it is extremely expensive. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and had a very nice week.

Resort with a Lot of Heart - We Will Be Back!

Working_in_Victoria (Victoria) on Jan 22, 2023

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely stay at the Royal Decameron from January 13 to 19, 2023. The resort was comfortable and immaculately clean; in fact we’ve never seen a resort kept so perfectly clean 24 hours a day. There was a great selection of tasty food at the restaurant, including a lot of authentic local cuisine. Our only suggestion is that the buffet restaurant put more of the food in warming trays, as some things we expected to be hot were in fact cold. We highly recommend getting the cook to make you an omelette at breakfast. Also, we found the staff made plenty of tasty drinks at the bars. The snack bar, located poolside, serves a nice lunch; and in the evening it converts to become a fancy, romantic dining restaurant. You need to book this a la carte the night before, and you can book it again and again during your stay. We do encourage all fellow travellers to tip the wonderful staff at the hotel. The beach was fantastic: very beautiful, very sandy, and long! You might be able to see whales as they swim by in the ocean. Some guests talked about seeing baby turtles being born on the beach. For me, a real highlight was the daily beach volleyball. The 3 pools were amazing, with plenty of availability of poolside chairs and towels, and it was nice to enjoy 2 swim-up bars. The 9pm shows were fun: especially the truly amazing circus show, which we highly recommend! We can’t comment on the disco that was open from 11pm-1am, as it was a little past our bedtime. However, we did manage to enjoy the fireworks shows happening in the evening at the Hyatt next door, visible from our hotel balcony. There are a couple of things to be aware of. First, the bathrooms are small, and it’s not obvious that the bathroom door swings inward to become the shower door. Second, be aware that it is cold in the early mornings and also in the evenings (at least at this time of year), so be sure to bring a few warmer garments. Just across the road from the hotel and up some stairs is a big store rather like a Walmart, called La Comer. They have a great assortment of souvenirs, like t-shirts, hats, coffee, and much more, at very reasonable prices. We do recommend that you book a guided tour to Cabo San Lucas, which is located 33km away. (The Royal Decameron is located in San Jose del Cabo, which is about the same size as Cabo San Lucas, and possibly even more beautiful). We booked through the WestJet representative in the basement of the hotel; he booked our tour through a company called Sunny Hill. Our tour driver was very knowledgeable about the history of Los Cabos, which he shared with us in very entertaining fashion. On our tour we went to a glass factory, a jewelry store (where my wife won a free pearl!), and a different store for Tequila tasting, all followed by a fabulous glass-bottomed boat tour out to the Cabo Arch and beyond. The glass-bottomed boat tour was spectacular! At the end of the tour, our driver from Sunny Hill was kind enough to drop us off and later pick us up from Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina, so we could enjoy a very memorable lunch. The whole tour cost us around $60 US per person, not including the lunch at Cabo Wabo Cantina. We would absolutely return to this resort! The staff couldn’t do enough for us. We were very impressed that a hotel manager came by when we were sitting poolside, to see whether there was anything more the hotel could do for us during our stay. She was taking careful notes. We plan to return to this resort again for another vacation.

#1 in my books

SarBrill on Jan 20, 2023

this hotel had a lot of mixed reviews and we were a little hesitant to come. We were pleasantly surprised!!! the food was great! so much variety, and the drinks were perfect (shoutout to Luis and Albair the best bartenders ever). Luis even cut me up an apple one day as a lil snack. we loved the shows and the daily activities. the staff did an amazing job and everyone was so friendly. karaoke night was a hit. we loved the question of the day. José, Fernanada, Alandra and Itzayana (idk how to spell that one) made everything super fun, we especially loved tequila volleyball lol. you never have to fight for a chair at the pool or the beach! it’s a small resort so the community is like no other. the rooms were clean, always stocked with water and towels. also beautiful full length mirrors in each room and around the resort. I recommend to rent a car or walk over to the art walk on thursdays, lots of vendors and beautiful local art to look at and purchase. we also rented a car and drove over to San Lucas, great decision as we got to support more local vendors, and have a meal by the water :) my only complaint would be to keep the bars open for longer or at least more than one bar at a time. and it’s a little sad you can’t swim in the ocean, but that is no fault of the resort. the pools are great.

Great trip!

Getaway00888983435 on Jan 17, 2023

This is a much smaller resort than we were accustomed to but it worked out wonderfully. We were there with extended family, 16 of us. All the employees were so kind and sought to make our vacation the best at every turn! The resort is clean and well-maintained but rooms could use an update. There are only 2 restaurants—a buffet open for every meal and late night snacks and a Al a carte restaurant closer to the beach. That is open or lunch thru 5 pm when it’s open for dinner by reservation only. As a large group, they weren’t able to accommodate our party for dinner but some of us did dine there one evening and food was good. Buffet food is as you’d expect—some very good, some not as good. The beach restaurant has great small plates for lunch and snacks! Try the ‘chicken boneless’—seriously good stuff! Honestly, when we first arrived I was disappointed at the resort’s lack of ‘flash’ but this quickly was replaced by appreciation for the fine job the employees do! Great trip’
