Great Value for Families
(Santa Monica, California)

We had a really great time at the Royal Solaris. It's super family-friendly, with a whole separate kids club area with shaded Noah's Ark themed shallow pool with 7 small water slides, plus two more bigger slides with a lifeguard and height requirements. Kids 4+ can be dropped off at the club from 10-5, for water play, crafts, movie, video games. For a fee, there is also an evening camp from 5-8p.
The service is excellent and attentive, and you see the same faces again and again in the restaurants, activities and dinner shows. There is a small pitch to purchase membership, but it's much lower pressure than any time share pitches I've gotten, and they don't hound you if you say no thank you to the tour.
The food in general was good but not great, but I expected that for the all-inclusive nature. There are a lot of excellent restaurants off site if you want to splurge for a night, and the rates are so reasonable we didn't feel bad doing that for a meal or two. Marco Polo was definitely the best food for dinner, and if you can catch the ice cream midday by the pool before it runs out, that's another highlight! The atmosphere of the restaurants make up for the food quality. But anticipate spending 1.5 hours at the restaurant, it's not fast service.
My kids LOVED the evening shows, which included a kids movie themed performance and a super hero themed performance. The Pancho anniversary celebration was also a hit, and they loved taking pics with the different characters.
Overall Pros: Excellent service, rooms are clean, modern w/ good A/C, fun evening shows and daytime activities, kids water park, great atmosphere/design in the restaurants,
Food Pros: Omelette bar at buffet, ice cream midday at the pool, specialty coffee drinks at the lobby bar, dinner at Marco Polo, swim up bar
Cons: The pool is a bit warm and cloudy, but in the mornings it was clean so I think it just happens with that many people. Food isn't amazing, and I wish the ice cream was more available besides 1x a day.
