What a Trip

Aidan M on Sep 02, 2023

Myself and 8 friends spent the weekend at Solmar, it was one of the funniest weekends we’ve had. Jorge and Marian were awesome, we played poker, cornhole water aerobics all with drinks in hand. Honestly one of the coolest experiences I’ve had with the best staff to go along with it

Thank you for your English!

IndySpirit7 on Aug 25, 2023

The thing that contributed most to making my stay so enjoyable was that all the staff I encountered spoke enough English to serve and help me. I very much appreciate this as otherwise I would have been dependent on my translation app, which would have been cumbersome. Being able to use English made all my interactions so much easier. Thank you so very much to All the Staff for speaking my language with me. Also for your consistently excellent service and friendly overtures. Solmar is a lovely little resort, very clean and well kept up (other than a towel bar that kept falling off). The beach views are really spectacular (but oh lord don't go out there without water shoes - hot hot hot sands!). The water pressure in the shower was Amazing. My showers were practically massages and there was lots of water. I really enjoyed that. Speaking of water, it is true that as others have mentioned, that even with the meal plan they do not provide complimentary in room water. However it was much more convenient than I anticipated to just always order water (complimentary with the meal plan) with my meals, or drop by the pool bar. I had no problem having enough water in my room that way. It is also true that the pool water is not cool enough to be refreshing, it feels almost warm. You actually cool off better by getting out of the pool and letting the breezes waft across your wet body. And speaking of cooling off, I might just mention that the thermostats in the rooms don't appear to respond to adjustments. Or rather they Appear to, but it doesn't seem to make any difference in temperature. After fussing with it, I probably would have ended up leaving it alone anyway as I found that I was more comfortable than I thought at first. I did not call the front desk to inquire, but I'm guessing that the thermostats are centrally controlled and you'd have to request any changes. These are nit picky complaints - I want to express that overall it's a very enjoyable resort and I do recommend it. On my arrival day I was greeted and served at the restaurant by Daniel who did his best to make me feel welcome and comfortable, and was ready to answer any questions I had, and not just about the menu. I had to laugh later when all my restaurant water orders arrived in the unopened bottle (as I preferred anyway), and not in the iced glass with an orange slice the way Daniel served me, knowing it was my first time at the resort and the restaurant. The staff there really are first rate - very attentive to your needs even before you have to ask. Two simple examples: I had some Excellent fish tacos that were served with freshly cooked french fries from the grill (usually they come with rice & beans). There was a small container of ranch dressing for the fries but I used it up quickly and was wishing I had more, when suddenly my server appeared with another container. On another day when I wanted to sit inside at the restaurant, I would have had to wait for a table so I chose to sit outside instead without further comment. I had only been there about 10 minutes when a table inside opened up and the hostess came to me asking if I'd like to move inside. I did, but not before I received a visit at my outdoor table by a sweet little bird (see photo). I cannot end this review without mentioning the luxurious massage I received at the resort spa near the beach. In a ventilated hut with a quiet fan blowing to keep cool, with the sound of the waves in my ears, Yadira gave me the best massage experience I've had in a long while. Strong knowledgeable hands and a warm presence, she left me somehow both relaxed and rejuvenated. It is such a privilege to be massaged, especially by someone who gives their all as Yadira did for me. Thank you for that!
