The Azul Beach Resort Negril is a contemporary resort with a laid-back Caribbean feel designed to allow couples, groups, wedding parties, families and friends from all generations to re-connect under the sun.
Before Covid, we traveled regularly, at least once sometimes twice monthly. Jamaica is at least a twice a year stop. Our flight had to be changed at the last minute and our usual resort was booked that first night so we decided to give this resort a try. Never again.
The front staff was curt and not helpful. Told us to "go on and come back later - your room isn't ready". Well we told them we had never been there did they have a map of the resort. You would have thought I asked her to give birth to an elephant. After much sighing and stomping of feet (and a slammed cabinet door), she dropped a map on the counter. It was lunch time so we went to find lunch (this was a Sunday) and everything was closed even though on the app/map there were several places that were designated as "open".
Finally about 1pm we were able to find one restaurant that wasn't closed and get something to eat. After being asked if we had any allergies (he does to turkey), we received our menu and ordered and the waitress came back stating that there wasn't any roasted ham was the roasted turkey okay? Seriously? You just asked if we had allergies and offered us exactly the thing on that list? Finally after finding something else - we went back and forth 3 times as for some reason they didn't have anything on the menu, the food was served. It was just barely acceptable (and I am not too picky - warm and cooked works), we went back to the front desk to check in. Our room was ready and we got in.
The one and only bright spot in the entire stay was the adult swim up bar outside our room - Tina was the bartender - and that was nice.
We decided to turn in early, about 9pm, and about 930 there was yelling next door. At first we were patient, but it escalated to the point that I was concerned there was going to be something serious. I called the front desk and they informed me that they already knew about it and were dealing with it. About an hour later with nothing changing we called again. We were told they would be down in a minute. It quieted for about 10 min and then started up again, this time with screaming and what I can only surmise was throwing things against the walls. Then they took it outside and started banging on doors. I won't repeat the things said but they were revolting. I called a third time and asked to be moved to another room that I didn't feel safe and was told a manager would come down. No one ever called to check up on us or knocked to see if there was anything else they could do. About an hour later they were at it again. Things were thrown in the pool - mind you, we were on a first floor swim up suite so easily this could have moved over to us. Basically, neither of us were able to sleep, especially with the woman who kept coming to our door banging on it screaming that she knew he was in there ********* another woman and he better come out now!
We got up early, grabbed a quick breakfast, only to find people trying to sell time shares to people at the resort. We packed, called our usual resort (bless them, they found us a room), and went to the front to check out. The same lady was at the front and looked at us and said that if we would wait till the afternoon, they might find us another room. MIGHT. I told her no, I didn't feel safe and if they weren't going to change our room and remove the people from last night I wasn't staying. They wanted us to sign a form that we were leaving through no fault of theirs. I refused to sign this as I wanted management to know that there had been an issue. I put a full explanation of what happened and why we were unhappy.
One of the pools was disgusting and closed. The kids area was in disrepair. they had over half of their restaurants closed and if you didn't make it to there scheduled breakfast, lunch or dinner you were completely out of luck. And the schedule in the app is inaccurate - beware! There were no grills or anything to eat outside of those very limited times. Every resort (all-inclusive) we have ever stayed at, has somewhere you can grab at least some fries or a burger but not here.
I would never recommend this place to anyone. At a minimum someone should have checked with us to make sure we were okay. Offered a room (no, they were not sold out), something to make up for the disturbance. I will also say that that behavior would have been soundly kicked to the curb in our other resorts, including two in Jamaica. The staff wouldn't have tolerated that kind of behavior because they have more respect for the people vacationing with them. They didn't offer to refund even the night we didn't stay. I am lodging a complaint with my credit card company to see if there is anything we can do. Also, make sure you bring LOTS of money. Someone is sticking their hand out non stop for tips and if you don't give them what they think it should be they slam door and get ugly or won't help you again. We tip generously normally, but this was way beyond acceptable.
June 2021 Vacation
Jun 20, 2021
We just returned from Azul Resort in Negril Jamaica. People and room was great. Of course view was beautiful. The resort needs to work on their food management. Breakfast was very average. I can handle great service and average food, but the last day of our All inclusive stay, restaurants were fully booked(not that all were open for dinner) I think 3. We were told we had to order room service and you have to use the app or your room phone(which sometimes did not work) to order. When we finally got through to order they were out of Jerk Chicken and the items were limited. We ended up with a salad and burrito. I can only assume a lot of guests had to order room service as well. The resort did not seem packed so I could not figure out how the restaurants were booked and the resort was running out of food. Also they don't offer much seafood which was surprising. The staff was very nice but really didn't seem concerned with our issues of the food. One last note if you want something you need to ask for it. Rather it be stronger drinks or your refrigerator stocked you need to request it and they will provide. Our party give the resort a 7 out of 10. However if not for our great bartenders by our poolside room it would be much lower. Thanks to the bartenders at Building 1.
