Disappointing Stay at The Royal, Moved to The Cove

SoPat1221 on Nov 07, 2025

Overall Verdict: Atlantis presents a stunning façade and impressive aquatic features. However, the experience is severely split between the older Royal Tower (poor value and frustrating service) and the upscale Cove (luxurious, but with some noise issues). You should choose The Cove if your budget allows. The Royal Tower: A Frustrating Start Our one-week stay began at The Royal and quickly turned into a disappointing, complicated ordeal, leading us to switch hotels after just two days. • Room Quality & Maintenance: The room was plagued with basic maintenance issues that should never happen at this price point. We experienced no hot water in the shower. The in-room entertainment was broken: the TV didn't work initially, and once fixed, the remote control was broken, requiring yet another service call. Furthermore, the room card required two separate trips to the lobby to fix, reinforcing the feeling that "everything seemed complicated." • Housekeeping Failures: Simple amenities were missing. We had no shampoo and, when requested, staff mistakenly delivered a bottle of body wash instead. Everything felt unnecessarily complex and required constant follow-up. • Climate Control: The hotel's interior environment was extremely uncomfortable. The lobby and common areas were "freezing cold," requiring me to wear a vest indoors at all times. • Amenities & Pools: We were greatly limited in enjoying the resort's facilities, as the two largest pools were closed for the entire week (Baths Colonnade & The Coral pools) and additionally, the standard lounge chairs were extremely uncomfortable, making relaxation difficult and causing concern about potential back discomfort. • Service: Service was generally average, with staff rarely smiling or providing exceptional assistance. Dining and Nightlife • Restaurants: Dining was hit-or-miss. The quality restaurants were excellent but incredibly pricey. However, any dining option with a "reasonable" price point was unfortunately average at best. • Evening Entertainment: After dark, the resort feels lacking. Unless you plan to spend time (and money) at the casino, there is virtually nothing else to do at night. The Cove: Worth the Upgrade Moving to The Cove immediately highlighted the difference between the two properties. The experience here was significantly superior. • Room and Comfort: The rooms are spacious and noticeably upgraded. Crucially, the pool experience is better, featuring comfortable lounge chairs with thick cushions. • Service: The overall service level was much higher and more attentive than at The Royal. • The Only Downside: there was construction work happening on the property every day from 10am to 5pm (very loud drilling sound). Guests planning on taking an afternoon nap should be aware that noise from construction in the afternoon may be an issue. The Resort Highlights Regardless of the tower you choose, the resort's exterior is genuinely impressive. The waterpark facilities and grounds are stunning, and the aquariums and marine habitats are truly world-class.
