Best combo of relaxing and fun

G118WAmollyb on Jul 02, 2022

I was so overwhelmed when I was looking for a resort in Jamaica. I knew I didn't want the "stereotypical" resort that makes me feel like a tourist who doesn't engage with any culture, but... I also didn't want to spend a lot of time planning a trip. Sunset at the Palms was the BEST decision. Yes, it's all inclusive and yes, it would be easy to stay on the resort's campus the whole time, but they made it really easy to grab a taxi and explore what you likely wouldn't experience at a Sandals (no offense-- I know Sandals is great too-- just not the vibe we were looking for). It's chill, low-key, quiet, but still a lot of fun. Really enjoyed Paul's piano singing and Chef Bruce's cooking class. My recommendation is to walk out of the security gate and use one of the vans lined up-- they'll bring you on any excursion you want, tell you about the community, take you to local hot spots, and you won't be stuck with a large crew as you would if you booked directly through any resort. STAY HERE YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

A Beautiful Manicured Jungle

Just back from SATP and where we had the most relaxing holiday. We were fully catered for by the staff who were understanding of our need to have a Jamaican experience. Kadi-Ann and Tobi-Ann were professional and on point. The waiting staff and kitchen staff were friendly and service was outstanding. Evatt went above and beyond to meet our Jamaican dish requests. Linford steered us around the gardens and was extremely knowledgeable of the plants and was very personable. Verona was extremely helpful and the staff in general were friendly. Our house keeping lady Kimberly was amazing, she was professional and met our needs as requested. It was really nice to be surrounded by nature and to be greeted in the mornings by all the staff team. The room was good and met our needs in regards to space and comfort. My only gripe was that the room was a little dark but no real complaints. The beach team were also outstanding and were really helpful and friendly. Kevon was really attentive and personable. Chef Clint in the Kitchen was amazing he ensured that our meals were extra seasoned and well cooked, he was also extremely polite and humble when praised for his efforts. I have recommended the hotel to others since returning and would visit again. We occupied Room 106 during our stay and although at the back of the resort was still comfortable but the view was limited and facing the fence. I was sadly unable to view a suite as they were all occupied but I'm sure that the suites could only be better The security staff and road crossers were also polite and ensured we felt safe and acknowledged us as there guests also. The entertainment needs a facelift, and should be focused on a Jamaican experience rather than the usual International diluted Bob Marley songs. The entertainment should reflect the diversity of your guests, would love to hear some Dennis Brown, Luciano type songs to make me feel at home. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a secluded time out without all the noise and bustle of the bigger resorts.

Big Thank you

Yesterday whilst walking along the beach the rain came with thunder and lightening !! We were sheltering under a tree in front of the hotels beach bar . Your kind barman and lifeguard beckoned us over to shelter there and gave us towels to dry off . It was such a kind gesture and really appreciated. We had looked at booking this hotel but unfortunately it was fully booked. If this is shown throughout the hotel you must give your holiday makers a great time . Wish we had booked earlier to stay there . Thank you again.

An Amazing Stay at a Very Special Place

KristenM522 (Cohoes, New York) on Jun 26, 2022

Having been to Jamaica only on business in the past, we decided to have our first vacation on the island and could not have had a better time at Sunset at the Palms. Everyone that works at this property is kind, friendly, and super accommodating. I highly recommend the Club Mobay service at the airport (for arrival only) as our representative whisked us right through security and to our driver in record time which helped us to relax and start our vacation on the right foot. Upon arrival to the resort (the drive from the airport is about 1.5 hours), we were greeted by the concierge and brought right to our beautiful and well-appointed tree house room. The property is lush and beautiful with so many gorgeous plants and flowers and even some goats roaming around. The rooms are relatively small, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom and shower was amazing and the deck with a couch to enjoy morning coffee or the evening sounds of frogs was remarkable. The bed was very comfy, too! The "stocked" fridge had minimal items inside - 2 beers, a few waters, and a couple of cokes. I guess I was expecting more, but it didn't matter because there were many options outside the room to get drinks and snacks. We enjoyed the pool a few times, but it was often closed in the morning for cleaning. The swim up bar was fun in the afternoon and the bartenders were so great! The beach was a short walk across the street and was spectacular. Kemisha Stewart at security made every morning of our stay so wonderful with her kindness and care. She was a highlight of our time at the Palms. When you arrive at the beach there is someone to greet you and help set up your space for the day. The earlier you arrive the better the spot, but even on days we came later we were always able to get an umbrella and a good space. We did not do too many excursions because we really loved just laying on the beach and swimming in the crystal clear water, but we took a peddle boat out and loved it. I also snorkeled around a bit one day and saw tons of starfish, fish, and a giant stingray. You can buy snorkeling stuff at the gift shop - or bring your own! The buffet dining was good and had a nice variety. Breakfast was a highlight with so many options. We ate lunch every day on the beach at the bar which was pretty good, but could take a while when busy. The jerk nachos (ask for chicken on them) were delicious. The bar at the beach had delicious frozen daiquiris among other offerings, but next time we will bring our our insulated cups as they will fill them for you and the cups they use are tiny. My husband had a difficult time getting diet coke throughout the entire trip. We had one dinner at the Lotus which had table service and a menu. The dinner was nice change from the buffet, but we still preferred eating in the main dining area. We also enjoyed the martini bar and live music a couple of nights. The drinks were excellent and the atmosphere was so relaxing. A few things to consider: -There is no ATM on site and it was kind of challenging to get cash. We had to take a short taxi ride for $10 to an ATM which sometimes does not have money. We were lucky the day we went it was working. -Throughout the website it indicates that tipping is not expected or required, but many folks were tipping, which is why we needed to get more cash. It was unclear if this was actually an expectation or not - since many resorts do not allow tipping in Jamaica. -Bring an insulated cup for the beach bar and if you like to float you may want to bring a packable float- though there are some available on the beach if you arrive early (also some for purchase in the gift shop). -Definitely check out the vendors on the beach. They are friendly and have amazing items to sell at a good price. I bought a handmade hat from a guy on the beach and an amazing piece of carved wood art from a vendor named Gareth Reid (he was awesome!). -Definitely get a massage. It was outrageously relaxing and perfect! This resort is not fancy. If you have stayed at the larger more commercial ones and like them, this may be a slight departure. It is rustic and small. We loved this about the Palms because we truly felt like we were known and cared for. We met so many amazing couples that we enjoyed time at the beach and bar with. It could not have been a more relaxing time.

SATP is a low key, chill, great service, excellent food, unique boutique resort. Bring books, snorkel gear and your ping pong game. Loved it! ?? Highlights: 1) felt like we were living in Jurassic Park. The grounds are fascinating. Every mature palm you can imagine. Met the goats (make sure you do this with staff as they are head butters) birds are beautiful. 2) our room, dark wood, high ceiling, low key, loved the porch 3) food, great cooking. I’m not a fish person but the fish dishes were def among favourites. Chefs are magic, sauces and seasonings so good! Loved the carvery every night. Say hi to Michaela, she’s hilarious. 4) beach hut food was yum. They will make any combination of anything they do. Ask for the jerk nachos. Jerk chicken was delish. 5) snorkeling, go out with Glass Bottom boats “Reality”, ask for Captain Mike, right next to the swim area. He will cater to your level and aptitude. He went out with us showing us the reef. Ask for the far reef at Seven Mile Beach. We were out there well over an hour. Stunning. Went 4x was so good. 6) Club Mobay service was AMAZING. Waltzed through the airport like a rock star. Loved that. 7) clientele were well-put together combination of young couples and mid-aged babes like ourselves ;), dress code is nice. Read the reviews. This is a beloved resort. It completely grew on me and see why people return. It’s a different concept with the rooms away from the water but fully didn’t disappoint.
