Beautiful but could be stunning

sandgaz (Crawley) on Jan 29, 2023

Second trip to this hotel with a twenty year gap between the two,and it hasn’t changed…..literally. The hotel consists mainly of little individual cottage style rooms. We upgraded to an ocean front cottage. The room was kept spotlessly clean, however it was very very tired. The blinds were both broken and the curtains barely fitted. The fridge whilst it worked looked like an antique as did most the the furniture. The bathroom was in need of modernisation. The beach in front of the cottage had lumps of wire sticking out of it that the hotel tried to cover with cones which was fine until the sea washed them away. On the last night we discovered what looked like rodent droppings on our bed. The grounds were kept beautifully and the gardeners worked continuously to keep them so. The food in the restaurant was ok,when you could get a plate to put it on or cutlery to eat it with. On many occasions we helped ourselves to glasses for fruit juices in the morning from the waiters stations. The first two days we were there had no rum,or draught beer. The beer turned up lasted for a day and was replaced by cans of beer. The jetty bar was regularly out of rum or wine. The staff seemed indifferent to customers as if they were an inconvenience at times. Entertainment is put on every night, the standard varies it seemed the louder the better with the music, and be warned of the nightclub on the main road it could be heard clearly in our room until the early hours. This could be a stunning hotel with a little investment, the rooms are tired as is the decor in the restaurants.Think we’ll be leaving it a while before we return to this hotel. It’s shown as a three star but in places it’s more like a two.

Awful

Paradise402589 on Jan 29, 2023

Returned here after 12 years, what a disappointment. Firstly the positives: the grounds, garden and beach have got to be the best thing about this resort. Absolutely beautiful. The cottages are the ultimate selling point but they have deteriorated since my last visit. They are sparse, dated and contain no luxury. No mini bar or fridge, no tea or coffee facilities. Just a bottle of water, no glasses, replenished if we asked our cleaner every day. Eventually you got some. The biggest deterioration is the main restaurant. It was never a nice experience. Food was below average, never hot and constantly run out of food. If you didn't arrive at opening time there wasn't a lot of choice. The restaurant is dirty and there is lots of staff but they would ignore you. Only two restaurant staff made an effort during my 10 days they. They stood in big groups talking and would shoot you with harsh stares every now and then. I felt like an inconvenience. Some foods were restricted, for instance bacon! You had to ask for it and you were given 2 pieces. Sone days it looked so hard you could use it as a hammer other days it was practically raw. Chicken in the evening now restricted, if you were lucky and they had some you got a quarter of a breast. Ice cream, once they run out they won't open another tub. Plates and cutlery were a scramble to find. Most of the staff are tired, fed up and just don't want to be there. I get the impression they are underpaid and work very long hours. Don't expect a lifeguard to help you if needed, most of them, not all, drank alcohol all day long.
