Staff MADE the trip

This resort is great, but what made our vacation was, by far, the staff here. They work incredibly hard in the face of COVID restrictions and the tourism industry being shut down for an entire year. We have to mention these staff members by name as they made this experience so memorable:
SUNKEN TREASURE BAR: Antoinette, Tamique, Kerisha, Donovan, Ainsley
SUNSET BAR: Ainsley and Janice
DINING ROOM/BUFFET: Sheshika--- a true gem, ask for her every day!
BOOZE CRUISE/SNORKEL: Javon, Aldon (aka Aquaman)
WATER SPORTS: Garreth, Javoy
DINING: Definitely not the best I've ever had but I realize that the resort is operating under unusual circumstances as they still have stringent COVID restrictions. I felt so bad for the staff that have to wear masks AT ALL TIMES even outside. Three restaurants are currently open: Platinum, Jade Samarai, Moonstone (and the the buffet in the dining room). The following are closed: Bling night club, the piano bar, sushi bar. The hibachi servers at Jade are hilarious, again--- feel terrible for them behind the hot grill in masks. Buffet is okay, salad is great. Great pizza starting at 1:30pm in the Moonstone area but it does take about an hour. Aquamarine Grill: burgers, wraps, salad, sandwiches and fries until 2am. The cold tuna wrap is yummy.
SPA: great prices, we had 50 minutes massages and the staff was very accommodating.
THINGS TO KNOW:
- Ask for an orientation of what is open/how to make reservations when you arrive
- We didnt find the Sunset Bar above the Moonstone until Day 3, gorgeous sunsets, great bar staff
- Emerald Pool only open on weekends
- Wait staff avbl on beach and at pool
- Bring your own cups allowed
- No top shelf alcohol/wine
- Good wine only avbl for purchase by the bottle
- Room service avbl but if you want to order for breakfast do so before 4pm the previous day
-Wifi is not good in the rooms, strong in lobby and bars. You can request a wifi booster for your room for $120 (I think) which is refundable upon return
EXCURSION: We booked through the desk and did the Best of Ocho Rios for $162 per person. Included ATV rides (and a surprise cliff jump!), zip line, Blue Hole, tubing. Lunch and transportation included. I will write a separate review on that---everything was great except zip line (staff), tubing was our favorite.
BEACHES: two private beaches, very clean, great water. If you like snorkeling, there is a small private cove for beginners that is very calm. No beach to walk on. Cabanas for rent at $50/day but no one really used them. Would recommend lowering price to get more people to use them.
BEST DRINKS: blended fruit punch, kind of like a fruit smoothie, be careful bc it doesn't taste like there is alcohol in it. Coco Loco: coconut rum, gin, white rum, tequila, pineapple, simple syrup, lime syrup, Bob Marley: mango, clue carcao, white rum, blended/frozen.
TIPPING: PLEASE tip. COVID has hit this country hard, the people here work so hard to support their families. DO NOT order 20 shots and not tip.
