Pool View and Savannah View Review

Dana J on Jul 02, 2022

This is my favorite deluxe resort at Disney World because of its unique theme, stunning architecture and dining opportunities. Is the transportation it’s sore spot? Yep. Compared to other hotels the only option to use a bus is lame, but it’s not a deal breaker for me. I had the unique opportunity of staying at AKL twice in a six month span. My first visit I was in a pool view DVC room in Jambo House. The second visit was a savannah view off the Kudu Trail. So the big question: is the savannah view worth double the hotel room price? I guess it depends on your budget, but if you can swing it then absolutely. Our view was nothing short of magical every day when we would be on our balcony and see zebras, giraffes, ostriches and kudus. It was calming and serene to wake up to these beautiful animals! The room with a pool view was just as great though! We were on the top floor overlooking the pool. The sliding door to the balcony was double paned so we couldn’t hear the pool goers when it was closed. We loved this room and didn’t feel like we were missing seeing animals as we walked the grounds often and could see them from communal vantage points. So if you book a pool view you won’t be disappointed. I do think you get snubbed with standard views, so I wouldn’t recommend those rooms. We ate at Jiko, Boma, and Sanaa. Boma was a great buffet option for breakfast! Jiko had the best food and was good for the adult group. Sanaa’s food was only ok but we asked for a view of the savannah and loved being so close to the animals. If I could only eat at one I would pick Jiko though. GET THEIR MAC AND CHEESE. This hotel is not for the family or party that just needs a place to rest their head because they are in the parks all day. This is the perfect resort of a group that wants to plan a pool day and really absorb the hotel and its impeccable dining.

Animal (and Cockroach) Kingdom Lodge

mutguy (Singapore, Singapore) on Jun 24, 2022

I don't mind paying more for quality and luxury. That is why I chose to book Animal Kingdom Lodge in the first place. So I fully expected it to be expensive. Being expensive isn't the reason for the low rating. What I was not expecting for my 7 night stay were the 4 cockroaches (1 big one and 3 small ones which I saw on the 6th and 7th nights in my connecting Savannah view rooms). I managed to take a video of one of the small ones in the bathtub. The number of cockroaches in the room and the variety of them in the room meant that they have had an infestation going on for sometime. I think this has to do with the fact that housekeeping is not done everyday, and probably also because a lot of the furniture is heavy but have gaps between them and the wall. Case in point is the big table just below the TV. The table is bolted to the wall (understandable for safety) but has a gap between it and the wall which then does not allow for effective cleaning. To the front desk's credit, they offered to move me to another room. But as this was coming up at the tail end of our stay and we only noticed the roaches at the end of the day after dinner and watching the evening entertainment in the parks, I was in no mood to pack up all the suitcases and move to a new room. Compensation of USD150 was offered and accepted. I think they should have refunded the night's room rate but as it was midnight already and I was exhausted by that time, I did not quibble on the compensation. There are some pluses: - the service in Sanaa was great. Was treated really well. The bread platter with the different dips is excellent. - the rooms are spacious - the pools look great (did not try them as we were at the parks everyday) In any event, the cockroaches made it a very very disappointing and cheapening experience. I have been to other Disney hotel properties around the world and this is probably the worst one I have been to in terms of value exchange. By the way they do not provide any bottled water in the room. You get the sense that Disney is really skimping on its premium products. It was supposed to be a magical experience - but sadly it really fell short of that.

Gorgeous resort!

MandiCG49 on Jun 23, 2022

Saved up enough to splurge on a few nights here and it was well worth it! The room was spacious and very clean. We had a savannah view and regularly saw giraffes and ostriches from out balcony. Our room was about as far from the lobby as you could get and the walk felt daunting after spending a day at the parks. We ate at Boma one night, which was delicious. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The pool and slide were a hit with the kiddos. So glad we got to stay here and enjoy this gorgeous resort!!

Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World

411debrah (Orlando, Florida) on Jun 22, 2022

The staff was wonderful but the Lodge itself was amazing! We had a room that overlooked the Savanna and is was so much fun watching the animals come and go at all hours! The resident animal care people were knowledgeable and happy to share information on all the animals. Definitely a great experience!

Nice hotel

JJBB99 (East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) on Jun 20, 2022

We almost did not book based on all of the negative reviews about bus service. We found the bus service to be great. We never waited more than 5 minutes and most times did not wait at all. We also used the pool which was nice. Drinks at pool bar are extremely overpriced. Only complaint is that for this price point, there needs to be daily Housekeeping. Stop using Covid as an excuse when you are packing literally THOUSANDS of people into your parks on a daily basis. .
