Perfect for Disney fans

GemmaandKieranSmith (London, United Kingdom) on Dec 06, 2022

We stayed with two young children aged 7 & 5 for two weeks. The location is perfect, being able to watch the fireworks from the resort is ideal. My kids loved the entertainment in the evenings. The pool area was great for families although not always easy to find a sun lounger at the main pool. Captain Cook’s was easy for a quick bite although limited if you don’t want fried food. Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto looks lovely but people were queuing outside two hours before it opens to get in which is ridiculous for a hotel bar. The food at Ohana was nice but to be honest seemed overpriced without any characters (due to Covid). Theming of rooms is lovely and not too tacky. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Overall I would say that dining and bar options could be better there which is why I haven’t given it 5 stars. Theming is beautiful and we would definitely stay there again. Being on the monorail is a huge plus. It’s a hefty price tag and I would say it’s worth it if you’re a huge Disney fan or want a really convenient option, but perhaps not otherwise.

Wish I could rate it better, but I can't...

I truly, honestly love the Poly... Stayed there before and reconsidered this time based on recent reviews, because while I don't mind spending money for good service, I do have a bone to pick with "top-tier" resorts that lack customer service. On that front, the Poly fell flat this time. For context, we moved from the Yacht Club to the Poly. At Yacht, service was top-notch, their attitude was clearly to please you. I asked for a specific room, and they gave it to me. At the Poly, the attitude was "you are lucky to be staying here, take what we give you and don't complain." I booked a room with Pool/Marina view and got a room with no view (technically faced the quiet pool but was first floor view of bushes, with a toilet that didn't work for extra fun!). When I tried to get moved, I got hours of runaround. My wife (who got to the resort while one my kids and I were still in the parks) received what I can only describe as very sexist treatment. She was left to wait for 45 minutes to talk to a manager, and the manager she finally got to talk to (who I could name but won't) was rude and dismissive. Basically told her he would move her if she paid more but would do nothing else. When I got there, the (male) manager suddenly became more accommodating. First told me we were booked in the right room category and nothing they could do, ultimately admitted they fudged a bit (Disney central room number confessed I had been downgraded to a lesser view). Finally did set us up with better view but I had to pay more and it was a miserable experience overall. My basic impression was that the resort is overtaxed because so many rooms are either un-sellable or undesirable because of DVC construction and they are trying to make do. Beside the room debacle, there simply aren't enough food options to support a resort of this size. We had reservations for 'Ohana (which it took hours of on-line work to get), but there were lines for Capt. Cooks constantly, and the ridiculousness of trying to get into Trader Sam's is crazy (while STAYING THERE, we signed up for the wait list multiple times, but I dont know how they expect you to ever get in when you are told it will be HOURS before you get a text to get in, and then once you get that text, you have 15 MINUTES to check in!?!). It is still a unique, beautiful resort, but until management finds a way to make people who pay to stay there appreciated and valued, I can't recommend the Poly to anyone given what you pay to stay there.
