The fitness center is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, as well as TVs, a sauna, and lockers. The Feel Good Spa at Ace Hotel offers massage, body treatments, and facials utilizing organic products. Quirky motel in good location in Palm Springs. We were a family of 4 with teens and room had a large bed and twin singles with curtains for privacy which worked well. Bedding was lush. Room quite dark (floor /tiles) so may be in need of a refresh. Small balcony as well. Bathroom sinks in open plan but toilet and shower private.
Poolside was fun with large pool, misters and private cabanas. Deck chairs were average. Very little shade. There was a hot tub as well which was large.
Breakfast in kings highway diner was average. We had kings highway breakfast, avocado on toast, Belgium waffle and yogurt and granola. Coffee was decent.
Service friendly. Very diverse guest roster (couples, young families, friends - all ages etc) and with a pool open until 2am a little wild but didn’t prevent us from enjoying it.
Overbooked and left us stranded
Jul 24, 2022
We arrived in the evening after a 7.5 hr drive, tired, only to discover that they had overbooked the hotel and had no room for us. This despite the fact that I had made a reservation and also even confirmed by email the day before! We were offered the only room they had which had working air con, which only had one bed - not sufficient for our family of four with 2 older teenagers. Our reservation had been for a family room with king bed and 2 twins, for $350.
I asked to speak with the manager (Francisco) and the front desk staff tried in vain to reach him several times over the course of 30 mins but he did not answer his phone. Why he was not there when they were clearly struggling to deal with all kinds of issues on a busy Saturday night (broken air con, overbooked rooms) is a mystery; clearly he is not even a present manager, let alone a good one.
In the end we had to find ourselves another hotel, two rooms, at double the price, in the late evening.
What could the Ace Hotel have done better, besides not overbooking their own hotel?
- call us as soon as they knew they could not honor our reservation (the front desk staff admitted they knew 2 hrs ahead of our arrival but did nothing to alert us)
- called neighbor hotels and booked rooms for us with the same number of beds we’d reserved, and covered the extra costs above the $350 we were expecting to pay.
None of that happened. Instead we were just stranded in the evening by a hotel that doesn’t care about its guests.
The only reason I’m giving this 2 stars and not 1 is because we did have a nice overnight stay there last year. It makes this all doubly disappointing because we were looking forward to staying here.
