Nice place to chillex

George G on Mar 06, 2025

Dated rooms, but very clean as the entire resort is./ Great service in all the restaurts, food is average but plentiful selection/ knives at all of the restaurants are dull/ Resort staff are very helpful/ Bar staff are great, but there is a need for more bartenders at the beach from 11-2 and 3-5 at the pool bar/ Nice beach wavy not still thus the water is not clear/ in the bay in front of every resort the beach is clean, if there is no resort the beach has garbage on it, sad really/ plenty of beach chairs, but not aroun the pool, take note that around 11 people from the ships arrive ti use the resort/ There are occational bird poop in the pool and birds sometimes flying around the sitting area of the buffet but not a big deal, pool is cleaned every night.

Great visit for Group of 11 Family and Friends (with kids)

Voyager11279297833 on Mar 03, 2025

Travelling party: -1 adult, 13 yo from Ontario -2 adults, 10 yo and 8 yo from Ontario -2 adults, 14 yo, 11 yo and 5 yo from Alberta Food - options for everyone. The food was average, and no one went hungry Buffet - tons of options, different themes each night. We used hand sanitizer after we came back from everyone round (serving spoons that everyone was touching). Mexican - everything looked/tasted the same. It was good. Very few vegetables - mainly meat. Italian - was good, not great. Again, no one complained. Japanese - was good. Kids really loved the live cooking experience. Beach buffet - great options near the beach. Guac and salsa were amazing. Had this every day. No one got sick from the food. Water is filtered with their filtration system throughout the resort (green initiative to reduce use of plastics). We brought water bottles and insulated cups which worked perfectly. Pool - 5 feet deep. 6 yo brought a life jacket and was fine. We also brought two large floaties and kids loved it (so did the adults). The pool area near the pool volleyball was shallower (3 ft) and little kids were in that area. I did laps at 7 am/7:30am and there was no one in the pool. Beach towel place has pool toys you can ask for (e.g. pool volleyball). Pool loungers were difficult to secure as guests put their towels there between 6:30 am - 9 am. We'd see the whole day go by and no one actually sitting in the lounger which was frustrating. In the end, we'd get 1-3 random loungers to dump all our stuff with all the kids and sit by the edge of the pool to watch them if we weren't actually in the pool. Loungers by the beach were easier to get at any time and you could move them around. If you're not picky, you'll always find a spot with loungers. Beach - great! Seaweed is cleared regularly. There are shallow areas and deeper areas to swim. There are some areas sectioned off to protect the coral reef. Swim around them, not on top of them. There is a beach bar cart so adults don't have to walk to the bars located in small separate stand-alone buildings. We played lots of games in the water (we brought a water football, waboba ball, floaties). We also brough mini baseball bat and wiffle balls for beach baseball - SO FUN! We had quite the audience (workers and other guests watching) as baseball is loved in the DR. We also used the giant chessboard (one of our kids beat an adult!), ping pong tables, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Beach is close to the beach buffet. Everyday at 1pm, they also have a massive beach cookout; if you like seafood, this is for you! Lots of lobster, oysters, other shellfish, paella, etc. Lots of games are organized by the pool area daily to compete for prizes (kids receive medals/hats, adults get Brugal Rum bottles). We competed in the family Olympics and won! I also tried archery and enjoyed it. We used the pickleball courts a couple of times - it does get busy in the morning. Super-fun! Gym - used this regularly. They had cardio machines, free weights, bars with weights and machines for weights. Recommend getting the app as all activities/games/gym classes were listed on it. Rooms - either came with 2 doubles, 2 doubles and a single or a king. Lots of room for everyone. We were all in building 8 and loved the location - easy access to beach, pool and all restaurants. Our room did back onto the Orchid garden which is where all the peacocks were. No joke, they sound like cats meowing at dawn and dusk with their calls. I did bring a noise machine and earplugs and only had to use it to block them out a couple of times. Otherwise, all the rooms were soundproof. The family of 5 had a family suite that had one room with a king and a second adjoining room with two double beds. The kids loved having sleepovers and the parents could sleep without hearing them but will have access by opening the adjoining door for emergencies. Everything was very clean. Room service was early if you didn't put the do not disturb card in. Floors and walkways were well-maintained. Most employees spoke some English, otherwise, I used Google translate and it worked well. Orchid garden is really pretty - so many varieties! Also have cocoa beans to see in that area; they're huge! Kids club - staff were amazing. Barbie in particular made a real great impression on our youngest kids in the group. Very engaging and approachable. Did a neon dance party, included them in the Carnaval parade, arts and crafts and more. Shows at night were mid. Not anything to rave about except the last night when they had special groups come in for Carnaval - they were really good. Nightly kids activities (8:00) pm were fun for the kids at the main stage. Nightly adult activities (9:30 pm) were fun too at the main stage- karaoke was good and the two youngest kids in our group went up and performed! We had lots of compliments about them. Market - to the right of the resort, if you walk along the beach for 10 min (lots of tourists walking there too), there is a flea market of sorts. All the shops sell the same items and the workers have blue identifiable shirts as the walk the beach and try to entice you to go over (they get some type of commission if they go with you). We went on our own and all the kids and bought a few items. Cheaper than the resort gift shop but you have to negotiate, otherwise the prices are on par. Items offered include key chains, magnets, shirts, DR baseballs, bracelets, necklaces, other clothing, wooden sculptures. Not any food items, except the one little store at the end that is unassuming and sold DR chips/snacks. The gift shop has more variety of items. I WISH I had a chance to go to the JUMBO store (it's a 20 min walk or 3 min taxi ride from the resort) - it's like their Walmart and I could have bought EVERYTHING and more from there at more reasonable prices. Security guards regularly on the beach/resort prevent any locals from being too aggressive with selling their good/services (hair braiding). Honestly, they were all great and I never felt accosted. We brought brand new Rawlings baseballs to give out to maids, lifeguards, servers, and even the two little boys outside the flea market who didn't speak any English. They all appreciated it. WIFI - EXCELLENT everyone on the resort on all the way to the beach. Better than my WIFI in Ontario! My son did get sick (two days of fevers near 40 Celsius; not sure what it was due to may be from drinking too much sea water one day when he was snorkeling for sea glass/shells (we brought a plastic snorkel). I had brought a medicine box with me and gave him Advil and Tylenol to control the fever. It resolved by day 3 and he only had a cough and runny nose. There is a doctor onsite; I spoke to her and she was lovely. She said if I needed him to be examined, the cost of $210 USD, unless I had travel insurance (which I did). It was reassuring to have someone there (24 hours availability). Transfers - getting from the airport to the resort - very SHORT transfer, however, we were delayed by over an hour as someone lost their luggage and had to file a claim (out of Nexus driver's control as we had to wait for them). Leaving from the resort to the airport, for some reason we stopped at another resort that was not on the initial transfer from the airport to the resort (again, out of our control, not a big issue). Flights - into DR - no issues Out of DR - waited 3 hours sitting in the plane due to a radar outage in the USA (out of WestJet's control as we awaited a new flight path). They let us off the plane but told us to stay near the gate (just so we could stretch/get food). Some folks were really upset. Specifically a couple of smokers who really needed a cigarette (it is an addiction). They ended up smoking in the bathroom of the airport. Heads up to maybe pack nicotine patches if you are unable to go without for several hours. We re-boarded after an hour and again waited another 1 hour - 1.5 hours on the plane as we still did not have a flight path (again, out of their control). I came back with a cold the next day even though I wore a mask on the plane. It must have been something on the plane as were were in it for over 8 hours. REMINDER - you have to complete an e-ticket for entry and exit from DR. Go to the DR country website to get this. Save it to your phone for easy scanning of the QR code. Bottom line - if you're looking for a decent vacation where everyone will have something to do/eat, this resort is for you. It's not huge and everything is walkable within a few minutes.
