Most of us got Traveler's diarrhea, food safety is not practiced here
Roberta C (Grey County, Canada) on Mar 23, 2024
Avoid this place. Out of 10 adults who went, 7 got traveler's diarrhea. Two weeks later, some are still sick. Some had to go to the hospital. Food handling and safety procedures need to be seriously investigated. We are considering reporting to the local health department down there. We emailed the resort to warn them about this but have had no response in over a week! We had 4 generations of family at this resort. Pros: The surroundings and resort itself are beautiful. Lots of flowering bushes. The a la cartes were good. Our favourite was the Japanese restaurant. Staff all work hard and the grounds are clean. Beds were comfortable. Dinner at the buffet was quite good. Walking out to the point for sunset was beautiful. We enjoyed the sports and snack bars. No issues with hot water, lower pressure tho. Cons: Almost everywhere we went we smelled cigar, cigarello or cigarette smoke. It was horrible, especially for the babies. Smokers were so rude and inconsiderate, that the resort should have designated smoking areas (or not allow at all) and, most importantly enforce them strictly for the enjoyment of the vast majority of the vacationers who do not smoke. With the stronger winds, one person smoking would impact over 50 others! The pool and beach chairs were "reserved" and sat idle for hours. Some even would "stake their claim" the night before. Such selfish behaviour. My parents who are disabled could never find a chair by the pool because of these inconsiderate people. Shame on most of you!! The hotel had signs and there were lots of security people around but no enforcement at all. We saw arguments frequently. Clearly the hotel doesn't provide enough chairs. Buffet hours were an issue. Breakfast was from 7 to 10:30 am. Lunch didn't start until 1 pm to 3 pm. Dinner was too late as well, 6:30 to 10:00 pm. Big lineups at the start of lunch and dinner as most North Americans are used to eating those meals much earlier. Lunch should start at noon and dinner at least 5:30 pm. The buffet at breakfast was terrible. I lived off of fresh fruit, omlettes and donuts which got boring after 7 days. Everything else was either cold or not what North American's are used to for breakfast. Lunch buffet was passable. In our group, we had 5 rooms and all were very musty smelling. Air conditioning worked fine. Important to note that some buildings don't have regular North American plugs so you end up having to get adaptors from the front desk. My parents were in building 8 which didn't have North American plugs. The rest of us were in building 4 which did. Building 8 was an older building and there were a lot of issues with the rooms including plumbing, electrical and more. You can't drink the water from the taps and shouldn't use it for brushing your teeth, however they did provide us with three bottles of water a day. Shortages of utensils, plates and glasses at the buffet was an issue, especially if you came later. The clear majority of vacationers were English speaking, yet there were only two tv stations that were English, BBC news and CNN. The rest were Spanish (whereas, definitely less than 5% of guests were Spanish speaking). Since the nightly entertainment was so poor, it would have been nice to have better tv options. Internet was spotty. No signals in many areas (dead spots), including down by the beach. Got overloaded at peak hours when you could get a signal.
Waking up at 630 for a sun bed is not a vacation!
Climber11570317761 (London, United Kingdom) on Mar 23, 2024
This resort is good for the price we paid but unfortunately I will not be returning due to the sun bed issue. The general manager Alejandro seems to be replying to reviews about the problem but has done nothing to fix it. It is not a relaxing vacation when you have to set an alarm at 630 to reserve sun beds for the day. The problem is easily fixable and the hotel chooses not to fix it. One day of our trip about 80 sun beds were sectioned off for some event and sat empty for half the day, reducing the supply of chairs available. The shade is very limited and the number of umbrellas available are also very limited. The hotel was nice otherwise, the buffet was good, with a good selection of food. The service at the buffet could be improved as often we waited for cutlery, glasses, etc. The steak house restaurant was very delicious, definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to at a resort. Overall, if the hotel can find a way to purchase 100-200 new chairs, it would be given 5 stars from me.
