Disappointing

This resort is disappointing... It's should be a five star resort! I'm not used to any luxury, but our experience doesn't match with what you should expect. 1. The rooms: We arrived very late and we've got a room on the 3rd floor, with a baby... So we changed that the next morning and got a floor on the ground floor. Great! But as we stayed for four weeks, we've had a lot of different neighbours. Normally it's fine. But these rooms have connection doors! Not smart, because you can hear everything. Litterally... you don't want that! Another thing is that the rooms where very 'wet'. The ceiling is coming of and we had molt on our shoes and luggages! On some days the bed felt moist. 2. House keeping: The lady's from housekeeping are sweet. But what is weird is that you only get a full mini bar on the first day? Also, when you say you need more shampoo in the dispenser, they tell you that you can use the little shampoos. So they didn't filled it up at any point. We've stayed for four weeks and I would have appreciated clean sheets more often. 3. Dominicans rule the resort in the weekends: Every weekend we left the resort. Every chair at the restaurant, bar, snack, theater was full! You couldn't do anything. There where never ending lines and people where not friendly, nor followed the covid-19 rules. That was very uncomfortable. Also a lot of fights (due to alcohol) and screaming in the hall... 3. The effect of covid-19: There weren't any shows, except in the weekends. Which is strange... Because then it was REALLY crowded, so not safe with covid, right? There was animation and they are so nice, but they had to do minimum efforts. No club dance, no zumba, no disco, no dancing, no extra restaurants open, only buffet! 4. The manager There were like 2 nights when the manager was in the resort. He was there with a group of people. At those days the food was so much better in the resort: breakfast, lunch and dinner. They even opened the two other restaurants and the disco! It was so weird.... So for tourist you don't make efforts, but for the manager with a group op people, the resort does? Yeah right... 5. The food: I've never eat much in the resorts, because basically the food is not so good. Very Dominican orientated. But I eat a lot of fruit and vegetatles. One day we ate a hamburger at the Snackbar and I've got so sick. I couldn't even hold water! So after 6 hours my husband brought me in the middle of the night to the hospital. I was very dehydrated and the doctor said I was intoxicated from the hamburger. I've spend 18 hours in the hospital and after four big bags of fluid they finally wanted to let me go. After that I was 3 more days sick. And after that I was scared to eat. So our last week ended with eating outside the resort. What was mindblowing, is that the manager of the reception called to our room when I was in the hospital. My husband happened to be in the room with my son to take a shower. She asked if I was okay. After that we didn't hear anything anymore. 6. Service: As it was 'covid-time', the resort wasn't full at all (except for the weekend). And we've stayed for four weeks. Also our last week I was in the hospital. You would expect some extra attention, like a 'get better soon card' in your room or 'nice to see that you've extended your stay card', just a little extra effort. Maybe I expected too much from customer service, as I've worked in a 4-star hotel for four years. But they should improve and staff should take some lessons. You should always help your customer and strive to happiness. We had a great holiday, because we made it work. But we are disappointed about above points. And I probably forgetting a lot of points as well. We didn't pay a huge amount of money, but still it's too much for what you get. So be awared!

Dreadful

Welcome to my first ever negative review. Our family of four are spending the summer in the DR and decided to take a break at the Be Live in Puerto Plata. The website shows the various dining and activity options as well as the various facilities available. It was after check in that we became aware that many of the facilities and dining options are shut down. There is no room service available either. Breakfast and lunch are only available at the buffet, where the haphazard and lazy food presentation would be downright dangerous if there was, say, an easily transmissible virus ravaging the planet. Dinner is a choice of the coronaffet or one a la carte restaurant. We made it to the threadbare, mildew-y room and called to ask for more pillows, but obviously our phone (along with the TV remote) didn't work. When I went to the front desk, I also found out that the promised booking at the a la carte restaurant for dinner that we requested at check in wasn't, in fact, possible. So we were lied to. You have to go in person to the restaurant at 3pm to make a booking for that night's dinner. I can't tell you any more because we turned around and left the property 90 minutes after we arrived. Our family has agreed to never speak of this experience again.
