Less Perks for "VIP" Viva Vacation Club Members

Dear Trip Advisor, We recently returned from a vacation at the Viva Dominicus Palace Resort in the lovely seaside town of Bayahibe in the Dominican Republic. We have been members of the Viva VIP Vacation Club for over 20 years. Past vacations taken at Viva Dominicus Palace were wonderful as we enjoyed the perks of being a VIP club member. This time not so much. Upon arrival the front desk personnel were friendly and very efficient getting us checked in. Four large suitcases were loaded onto a luggage carrier before being taken to our rooms. And there it sat for what seemed like hours. A bellhop finally showed up but only pushed the luggage carrier a few feet before disappearing without saying a word. Then we waited again. He finally came back and said he was taking us to our rooms. We followed him until we came across the lobby bar, where we ordered a couple of drinks. The bellhop became agitated and visibly angry when we stopped to order some beverages. I guess its okay for the bellhop to keep customers waiting but not the other way around. As we walked to our rooms, the beautiful landscaping and overall maintenance of the grounds are as we remembered them being – absolutely perfect! The grounds crew should be commended for their meticulous care of the grounds. We had some dinner at the buffet restaurant and went to bed. When we woke up the next morning our bathroom had a leak in the ceiling and water was flowing from it. We mentioned this to the front desk while heading to breakfast. They dispatched a cleanup/repair crew to our room. They had ripped out the ceiling tiles and stopped the leak from the room above in short order. The rest of our vacation was a big disappointment with service, staff’s attitudes, reduction in VIP benefits, burnt omelets and lack of cocktails advertised actually being available. That’s right, you had a 10% chance of the bars having simple cocktails available even though they were advertised on a drink menu. One day I tried my luck, but they did not have a gin & tonic, bloody Mary or sea breeze. I ordered a red wine which they had available. The bartender took a steaming hot glass from the dishwasher and poured the wine into it. By the time I took a sip it tasted like vinegar. I blame management for a lack of staffs’ training and 0 basic inventory management skills of a resort bar. For four consecutive days we had to request new card keys because they stopped working after only a day. The front desk had the lock itself replaced but that only resulted in us being locked out again. It was very annoying that we were repeatedly locked out of our room. Last several times we visited the Palace we enjoyed the lovely beach bar and VIP beach area next to Viva Café. When we walked over to where the area used to be, we discovered it was gone. I don’t know why management would completely remove a VIP area that was the most enjoyed by customers at the resort. We thought they might have moved the bar somewhere else. That’s exactly what they did and changed it over to a juice bar. The three VIP bars we enjoyed on previous vacations had been reduced to only two. And not a one was on the Palace grounds. You had to hike over to the Viva Dominicus Beach to order a cocktail from a VIP bar. I don’t k now why anyone would join the VIP club today as it is not what it used to be. I would caution anyone considering joining as every year more and more of the “VIP” perks have disappeared. It’s truly a bait and switch scam. This was our last time booking a vacation at the Viva Dominicus Palace. Eliminating VIP perks that have been in place for years is not customer centric and makes one wonder what other “VIP perks” will be eliminated in the future. Boston Rick

Cafè Dominicus best place in the resort! Isamar Rosario...she is fantastic! Super!!! She's so cute and gentle with babies!. Atlantis best restaurant in the resort. Good food and nice view just right the sea
