This is our second visit to this resort. As Club Viva members we have been to all except Bahamas; some several times. We really enjoyed this visit. The resort was better than I remembered. They have added a couple of new (very good) restaurants, and remodeled some of the rooms. As members we were given one of the remodeled rooms and it was very nice. One complaint is that, even though we asked for a king size bed, we were first given a room with two queens. After speaking with our Club Viva rep at the resort, Franklin, we were moved to one with a King bed. Our favorite restaurant was Fusion Latino, which I don’t remember from our previous visit. The food was excellent and so was the service. We also enjoyed the Italian and Mexican restaurants very much. We did one tour I would highly recommend. We took a “fast” boat from the resort and visited the natural pool and a gorgeous beach on Isla Saona. The trip also included a stop at the town on the island and a fourth stop at a beach where we ate a very good lunch. The tour was well worth the price. And now for some shout outs: Thank you very much to Franklin, our club rep, very helpful, attentive, and informative; Yanilka at the Atlantis area bar; Arleny at the Palace buffet (a very hard working and pleasant lady); and last, but certainly not least, Carlos at Fusion Latino, best waiter ever!

I was in this complex, long live Wyndham Palace and the hotel is very nice, it has a beautiful beach, but your employee, Julio, security, attacked me, took me aggressively by my hand and was terrified when I went to make the report to the reception, there were many people just because of this aggression. i will not return to viva wydham palace

A fab holiday!
We have been waiting since March 2020 to go on holiday. Due to covid restrictions, it kept being cancelled and moved so we were so happy to finally get away. It was our first time in The DR, and we had a fantastic time. I don't understand the negative reviews at all. This is not a 5 star hotel and if you are expecting that, pay for a 5 star hotel?! However, that being said, me and my boyfriend thought it could easily pass as being a 5 star resort due to the level of care and attention at every move.
We stayed for 7 nights during June "22 and the weather was great. We would recommend downloading the VIVA app as it meant no queues for restaurant reservations - everything was there on the app to reserve from. We arrived mid afternoon and was greeted with someone to take our cases and a welcome cocktail. No problems checking in and was taken straight to the room. Now for the main review:
The room was very clean and nice. We had a round balcony and it overlooked the pond with flamingos and birds. Room is basic but has everything you could need - fridge, tv, iron, big shower and a huge bed! It was cleaned when needed (just slot your maid tab into the door). We had clean towels daily and fresh bedding. You also recieved 2 free bottles of water daily and more could be recieved from reception if you ask for it.
HOTEL GROUNDS AND POOLS
The grounds of this hotel and of the neighbouring Beach hotel are both kept immaculate. We even saw a cleaner cleaning a fake plant to keep it looking polished! No rubbish anywhere and clean sunbeds. The beaches were to die for - absolutely stunning and so many places to sit. We actually preferred the Beach hotel beach and pools but as we were staying at the Palace, this was not a big deal as we could use both facilities and we enjoyed the walk across the beach. The main pool at the Palace is loud and has music playing but there are so many other options if that's not your thing, it's really not worth complaining about.
We ate at the buffet for breakfast every day and it was lovely. So much choice - cold meats, cheeses, cakes, fresh fruits, pastries, freshly cooked waffles and pancakes, sausages, made to order omlettes and eggs. If you're a Brit looking for a full English, then you won't get it here. There are so many yummy alternatives though you won't miss it - plus you're abroad! Enjoy something different!
The evening meals were all delicious. We ate at the buffet once for evening and that was great, again, lots of choice. We chose to eat at reserved restaurants the other nights. We ate at Bambu (tasty but portions could have been bigger, some carbs maybe!?), Atlantis (very good fish dishes), Il Palco (tasty Italian with lots of options) and VIVA Cafe which blew the rest out the water. It was AMAZING. We had to send the scallops back due to being cold but it was not a problem and they were warmed up.
The pizza restaurant and snack bars were also very tasty. We enjoyed the Tiki Bar on the Beach side for non-alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic drinks, dare I say it, might be a bit TOO strong sometimes but there are worse things to complain about than that! My boyfriend loved the strength of the drinks though being a rum lover. Big selection of cocktails too included.
As always with all inclusive resorts, if you are vegan, I would not recommend staying here as I think you would be living off carbs and fruit!
All staff were absolutely lovely. Everyone said hello and were smiling. Not everyone speaks English but I think it's a very strange expectation for people to have to assume that people on the other side of the world would speak fluent English. We didn't have a problem asking for things, booking excursions or ordering food. Multiple times we were offered drinks on the beach and they brought them to our sunbeds. At all restaurants, our drinks were always topped up too. Both of these things went above and beyond our expectations.
We booked the Safari excursion through the hotel and it was absolutely fantastic. We were out all day and the tour guide spoke an impressive 5 languages so everyone was catered for. We had a lovely lunch in the mountains: would highly recommend booking this.
As mentioned before, the app makes life at the hotel much easier. There's a map on there as well as a space to book excursions and internal restaurants.
There are activities on site such as water sports, trapeze, archery, kids clubs and diving but we didn't do any of these so can't comment.
Beach towels are available to get with a card on arrival.
The shops on site are great and you can get snacks, souvenirs, artworks, clothes and more.
We were worried coming from the UK that we wouldn't be able to contact home as our phone packages don't include roaming in the Carribean. However, the WiFi was fantastic! A bit on and off in the room but everywhere else including outside, on the balcony and even on the beach was great!
Entertainment was fab. We watched a show which included dancers and ariel hoop artists. The theatre is located on the Beach resort and does get very warm. Like I previously mentioned, there is music and games around some of the pools. There is also a disco on the beach at the Beach resort however, this is very loud and if you're staying in the beachfront bungalows, you can hear it from 11pm onwards. We also had a silent disco at the Palace on the last night in one of the pool bars which was so fun.
EXTRAS AND IMPROVEMENTS
Overall, we had a fantastic stay here. We really enjoyed the resort and the excursions we went on. There is also lots of bars, restaurants and shops outside the resort too if you get fed up with hotel food. Having the ability to go across both the Beach AND Palace resorts made the holiday feel so much better as we had so much choice.
A few improvements which make this review 4.5 star instead of the full 5:
• You WILL be approached by the Viva membership team to try and sell you their VIP package. We actually did this on our second day. We had a VIP breakfast, was shown the VIP rooms and told the perks. The experience was fine but did take 2 hours of our morning and the price they want for the VIP package is close to £20k! When we said it was too much for us, the seller did get a bit rude and told us that it was "nothing" to us... As I practically earn that in a year, yes it is something to us!! Even after doing the experience, you are approached again and again to pressure you to doing it again. I think a wristband to wear after doing the VIP experience would eliminate this issue as it does get really annoying.
• The ladies public toilets could be cleaner. I actively avoided going during the day as they smelt strange and the toilets were nearly always blocked.
Apart from these things, we absolutely loved our stay. Thank you so much for making our holiday special after waiting over 2 years!!!
