Don't book this hotel. My husband and i visited in May and on arrival our cases were taken from us and we were pointed to the direction of the checking in desk. There were only 2 couples in front of us but we were left waiting an hour before it was our turn. The staff seemed to have taken things into detail with the other coupes before us. There was no aircon or no welcom drink as we had been advised. When we walked up the desk the gentleman took only around 10 mins with us and the only thing he explained to us was that if we lose our wrist bands it would cost $150 each, he tried to talk us into upgrading to diamond club for $60 each per night and took $200 dollars deposit. I said it was a 5* hotel therefor we should not need to upgrade to diamond club and refused his offer. He then said he would do it for $50 each per night. Again we refused. We were then sent on our way to find our own room. There was no map, no explanition of where the resturaunts were or that we had to book in to use them. We found our rooms and our cases followed shortly after. On entering our room it looked lovely and clean. We were in a swim up room in block 12. We were eager to get changed and go straight out for food nad an early night as we had had a long flight. We walked back upto the reception to ask a memebr of staff where the steak house was and we were pointed in the right direction. A lady welcomed us and asked for our room number which we gave and then she asked, 'have you booked?' I said 'no, we were't told we had to book'. The lady then said in a very rude manner, 'go away' and waved her arm as she said it. This was appauling service and certainly not service you should expect in a 5* hotel. We walked away and went into the buffet resturant where food wasn't too bad. We then went back to our room as we were shattered. The next morning we woke early and went for breakfast. At breakfast the food wasnt very good. Only one toaster for everyone. One man making fresh fried eggs and omlettes but there was always a queue . The bacon was fried in oil that cant have been chaed in weeks but if you like mash potatoes, cauliflower or broccoli for breakfast then you'll be fine! When we got seated i noticed some food on the floor near the next table was. I told a member of staff about this as i didnt want anyone to slip on it. Lunch time, there is a burger van at the pool bar but again, there was always queue and although it wasnt a big queue there was just no rush in the menber of staff on there and she would walk off several times and leave people waiting. No one advised us that we could use the resturant near the pool bar for lunch, we found out about this after we had been there a week. The beach was constantly covered in seaweed and the hotel failed to clean this up unlike the other hotels along the beach. On our second night we were booked in at the steak house. When we arrived again, we were asked if we had booked. I showed her our reservation only to be told again, they had no reservation for us. I stood and argued showing her the confirmation as proof but again we were to to go away. This night we went without food and went back to our room. We were in bed by 9pm. The following morning we got up and again went for breakfast. I had a look around but again, breakfast was the same as the day before so i gave it a miss. That evening we were booked in the zen for Tappanyaki. Finally we had go into a resturant although we had waited 25 mins to be seated. Once seated we waited another 50 mins for our chef to come. During this time we werent offered any beverages. We were all hot and bothered and then was told there had been a staffing issue. We gave up and again went back to our room. one in bed i heard the sound of running water. I turned on the light and there was water comig from the light fitting. I called the reception and maintanence were round within 20 mins. The next morning, i don't know why but again we went in for breakfast. The same piece of food was still on the floor where it had been the day before. Again i looked around and then saw a cockroach come out from where the fruit was. I walked out and from that day on we didnt go in the buffet resturant again. We were only 4 days in by now. We had a good day by the pool and carlos couldnt do enough for us. This day we were booked in to the steakhouse and i made sure it was amember of staff that had booked us in there. I left the pool and told my husband to follow shortly after as i take longer to get ready. On walking up to our room a man stopped me and tried to get me to look at the jewelry and although i said no thank you, he continued to follow me and he tried to put necklace around my neck. I had to push him away. I got to the room and not much longer my husband came in. We were both naked, i was just getting out of the shower and my husband was getting in and the man walked straight into our room. I was mortified. No one should be entering our room. Even the maid would knock. One day the electric light from inside the pool was floating on the water. I reported this as i didnt want a child pulling on it as it was still connected to the cables. For 2 days the pool didnt get cleaned. I will leave this review now because i could go on for the duration of our stay s there was something wrong every day. This was supposed to be our honeymoon but it was a complete waste of money and it has put us off visiting Dominican Republic again.
