Fun family holiday

jmarts on Aug 07, 2022

I’m not sure whether some of the people who have written poor reviews have stayed at the same hotel as me!!! We came as a family of 5 ranging in age from 81 to 16. We arrived from the airport and from the start we got to see how fantastic the staff were at this hotel. We didn’t need to worry about our cases they were taken care of, Alejandro at the desk was happy and welcoming and although it took some time as our party were checking into three separate rooms and we had some questions regarding dietary requirements it wasn’t at all tedious, he laughed and joked with us. We were given a cool drink and the process was a pleasant one. We were taken by cart to our room along with our luggage. My mum couldn’t get her combination lock on her case to open, reception sent someone round immediately when we called and got it open. The rooms are large and comfortable. In the bathroom Double sinks with a bath with shower over, Toilet and bidet. The beds are really comfortable, my mum suffers from sciatica due to a compression fracture of the spine, and I have a bad neck and we both found that the beds and pillows really comfortable. The rooms have both air conditioning and also a ceiling fan which we used at night as it was quieter. The room keys are constantly stopping working and you have to return to reception to get them reset every couple of days., One of our party is coeliac and needs a gluten free diet, that wasn’t an issue and the staff would get the chef if asked to explain what was acceptable, and made gluten free pizza and provided gluten free bread, although most of the time they could pretty much work out what was ok to have as there was plenty of choice. Watch out for Oscar in the main buffet restaurant- he looked after us very well when we were there but all the staff work hard. We ate at all the a la carte restaurants which were ok, the steak was good at the gourmet. We ate at the restaurant by the beach at lunchtimes- which had plenty of food for a “snack bar” the ice lolly’s were good to get during the day too! The food generally is pretty good and there’s plenty of choice. The pool areas are well kept - some areas are quite loud during the day, but there are quieter spots. We had no issues getting sunbeds somewhere on site as long as you aren’t too bothered where, plenty of beds and shade either round the pool or towards the beach. We aren’t really beach people but we did use the beach areas quite a few times, there are a few complaining about the sea but it’s fine to swim in and when you are used to the sea in the UK it’s an upgrade! Plenty of activities going on during the day you can get involved or not as you wish, the team will ask you but don’t pester if you don’t. Whilst there we had thunder and a downpour and water came into our room under the door, I rang reception and a team of people was round immediately with mops and brooms to clean up, and another crew drilling and digging at what looked like a blocked drain outside. We had a manager knock on our door later and check everything was ok and that we were happy, the next day we had a basket of fruit left in our room which was a nice touch. Can’t fault the way that was dealt with. We were unable to use our balcony area as there were too many mosquitoes in the area which was a shame. I didn’t see the hotel spraying at all whilst we were there. The evening entertainment is very good, some of the best that I’ve seen at hotels of this type. The team are very professional. The hotel grounds are very well kept and the staff here work tirelessly. Some of the rooms and communal areas look a bit tired and dated when you look up close but it’s all cosmetic really. What matters is the heart of this place and that’s absolutely spot on. It’s was my first time to the Dominican Republic and it probably won’t be my last.

Terrible service!! Don’t bother!

Clarey_24 (Liverpool, United Kingdom) on Aug 06, 2022

The resort and rooms are lovely but spoilt by shocking service at the buffet restaurants. Get shown to table then get left!! We’ve had our meal and still waiting for water, coffee, orange juice. Only a few staff are worth it but even if you tip they don’t come back to you not like other hotels I’ve visited. I’m here now and wish I’d booked somewhere else!
