Let me start with experience the first few days. My husband and I arrived May 5, check-in was fast but the first room we were given had 2 beds and was so far away from the beach and pool. The guy that took us to the room was nice enough to call the front desk and have them give us another room with 1 bed. But we decided to upgrade our room (building 2000) to be closer to the beach and pool, crazy thing is that my parents were there just 2 weeks before and they didn’t have to pay for their room that was in the same vicinity (building 3000). I guess they pick and choose, no idea. On Monday night our room (2011) that we upgraded to kept losing power. They sent maintenance over and he would fix it and as soon as he left the power would go off again. Finally, at midnight they said we needed to change rooms. And we moved to the room next door, so annoying.
The food itself was not great, at the buffets by the time you sit down the food is cold. We tried the Japanese restaurant and Tex-Mex and that was good. Booking the restaurants is a hassle. They are all booked up, you have to look very early in the morning and get it for a few days out.
The beach, we would get there at 8:30am and all the chairs were already taken up by towels. I don’t know what time people would wake up to “reserve” these seats, but it was frustrating. The chairs that would be free were in the sun. The water was dirty the first 2 days, I mean dirty as in a lot of seaweed, but I know there’s not much that can be done. The pool was the same thing, people would “reserve” their seats bright and early. That was the most annoying part.
Now, to the worst part of my trip. To go back to the US we needed a negative Covid Test, we took it the day before we were leaving and I tested Positive and my husband was negative. So they told me I would be moved to a part of the hotel that just has people with Covid, I tested positive around 9am and I was in my old room with my husband until about 4pm maybe a little earlier. The room they moved me too, the tv goes in and out and I was not been able to connect to the wifi. I called guest services at both Punta Cana and Barvaro and everyone says they will speak to someone, put a ticket in and still nobody has come. It’s the next day. Also, I left the tooth paste with my husband and I was also calling asking for toothpaste, they kept saying they sent someone and would even reach out a supervisor and still nobody came. When I ordered my room service the guy that brought it was so nice and I told him I needed toothbrush and he came back with 2 kits. Finally, a girl showed up and she gave me towels which I did not ask for. I told her that I had been asking for toothpaste and she looked confused and said she would be back. She never came back. If it wasn’t for the room service guy (Franklin) I would still be waiting. One morning I spoke to Dolores at guest services at Punta Cana and asked if my husband could leave some stuff for them to bring me and she said yes. That was a little before 8am and I didn’t’ get my stuff into later in the day. Trying to get ahold of someone was difficult and when I did they were completely useless. Mind you I speak Spanish, I can’t imagine someone stuck her that doesn’t speak Spanish. The only thing is they did pay for me to stay here there an extra 5 days, but when I say the customer service has been terrible since the moment I moved rooms I mean it. It was definitely a scary time, and like I mentioned Franklin from room service was amazing, he got me through the days.
Also, I called Punta Cana and asked to speak to a supervisor HerMias. Hopefully I spelled it right I told him all the problems I as having and he said he would call me back. I told him everyone said that and nobody ever did, and he said “If I say I’m going to call you back I will call you back”. Surprise surprise he never called back.
I am posting This review is a few months later, but I did write it while I was sitting in my room terrified.
Definitely will not be back to this resort.

This resort is very nice. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our cleaning person was very nice and always left little flowers for us when she cleaned. The adult pool was nice but the frozen drinks were not that good. They should have some activities there along with music. The Hemmingway bar made the best drinks and have live music at 11pm. We went every night. The Espresso Martini was amazing and so was the Chinola Colada. All of the staff there was amazing. If I had to change something about the resort it would be the fact that you have to make reservations for all of the Al a carte restaurants and we could not get one every night even though we went to guest service the night we got there but the buffet restaurants were delicious
