I was a little worried after noticing that most of the five star reviews were from accounts with only one post … it seemed a bit fishy to me. However, my concerns were not warranted. From the moment we arrived, we felt relaxed and well taken care of. Every staff member we ever encountered greeted us with a smile and a sincere attitude of wanting to be of service. We stayed in a Junior Suite and it was huge!! We were off patio 3 which is a great location in the middle of the property. We had a private patio and garden with the creek and jungle as our view. The bathroom was massive with 2 rain showers and a wall of windows, as well as a skylight over the mirror. A walk-in closet held plenty of storage and the room was well-stocked with pretty much anything we could need.
The property is long and narrow, and it is probably a 20 minute (beautiful) walk from one end to the other. There are bicycles all over the property - you just hop on and leave it at your destination. Some of the bikes are in desperate need of maintenance, but we found that to be a source of laughter most of the time. There are also golf carts continually going back and forth and, if we were walking, they always asked if we wanted a ride. You can also call reception and ask for a pick up, but we only did that at departure when we had suitcases. It wouldn’t be a good place for anyone with mobility issues, but we enjoyed the outdoor exercise and we certainly needed to burn off some of the calories we were consuming!
The food was very good and no buffets! We were disappointed that the more elegant restaurant was closed during our stay (we were not told of that ahead of time), so we had all of our meals at Aquamarine. Breakfast and lunch menus were the same each day, but the dinner menu changed and showcased different cuisines (Italian, Japanese, etc.). I’m gluten free and there was always something on the menu I could have, or they would make modifications to accommodate me. Service was slow at every meal, but I kept reminding myself that I’m on vacation, and maybe that’s the point … slow down and savour what is in front of you.
Although we visited in mid-January, the property seemed only half-full. There were plenty of loungers and virtually no one using the spa / gym area. The gym is clean and well-equipped, and the “included” areas of the spa are surprisingly expansive. Unfortunately, the hot tubs were not hot and neither was the sauna. However, the steam room was fabulous and we went in several times. There are lots of towels, bottled water, fruit, etc. to help yourself to, and I recommend the spa pool if you’re looking for some sun (or shade) out of the wind. We swam in the cenote (worth doing) and thoroughly enjoyed the patio tour (MUST do). Sign up for both ahead of time with the concierge.
The beach suffers from the seaweed problem plaguing the area. Staff were continually raking and carting it away, but it just kept accumulating, especially on windy days. However, it didn’t stop me from going in the water. There are cushioned loungers, lots of beach towels and waiters taking drink orders … so everything I could want!
We enjoyed the quiet, slow atmosphere. It is not the place if you are looking for nightlife or conga-lines around the pool. Most of the other guests that we spoke with were fellow Canadians, although we met a few Americans and Europeans.
While we had a fabulous stay, it wasn’t flawless. Our mini bar stopped being refilled with bottled water on day 2 (we stocked up ourselves at the beach bar or gym). Our outdoor plunge pool leaked every time it was filled (and by our 3rd request they stopped coming). The toilet would run until the handle was jiggled. The shower controls were very finicky. The lighting at night (inside and out) is comically dim. There are signs of wear and tear that need to be addressed. BUT we felt that these minor annoyances were not enough to put a damper on our vacation.
Two thumbs up!!

We came back, this our favorite resorts. It’s so relaxing not noise or anything like bad sounds or bad music.
The restaurant still amazing, with a new menu and the food so so delicious, we really love to see all the faces that were so helpful in the last trip, and in this trip too, I’m sure the waiters are a special part on the service and they work so hard to be the best! Thanks one more time to Misael who remember us and thanks to Juverly who even remember our favorite drinks!!
For this time we stay on palafitos and WE FALL IN LOVE i think are the best rooms ever, close to aquamarine and close to ámbar too you don’t need the golf car, but whatever, we love all the cleaned of the room and the view too.
