We had a blast!!

Suzanne J (Huntsville, Canada) on Apr 05, 2024

We visited this beautiful resort, as a couple, from March 25 to April 1st. We stayed in an oceanfront room (7135). The room was large and comfortable with a large balcony that even had a swing, Our butlers Marcello and Tania were amazing, as was Luis who helped us with our check-in and he made himself available for any questions you had. The food was good and plentiful. We are not reservation people, so we would eat meal at the buffet so we didn't have to follow a schedule. There were 2 evenings that the buffet wasn't open for dinner so the staff made sure you were informed of the closure and helped us to make reservations. Tony's steak house was fantastic. There were lots of fun activities as the pool, and the entertainment staff were top notch. A big call out to Elizabeth, a beautiful lady who made sure we had towels and whatever we were looking for. During the evenings we had a chance to meet with other guests at the hotel bar where the bartenders always remembered what you were drinking!! It was a little too quiet for us in the lobby as we love to dance. We did however have a great time at Rhapsody's when they had dancing and Karaoke. Also the band that played outside the lobby was phenomenal!! More livelier music, more often, would be great!! We always say your vacation is what you make of it. Being at a beautiful resort, meeting amazing people, having fun, and our needs always looked after by the staff, we couldn't have done better. We will be back!!

Really nice but wanted more...

J-Boy99 (San Diego) on Apr 03, 2024

Would love to give this place a great review based on the price we paid. Checked into our room and there was a half eaten chocolate bar and two bottles of half filled water. Jars of peanuts and chips were half full. This was remedied but turned out to be a constant issue getting bottles refilled. Housekeeping blamed it on room service etc. At this price and to be "5" star hotel to me this needs be taken care of behind the scenes and play "not me". Also, you need an app to figure out the activities which didn't work always. It also took 3 people at concierge to figure out if there was a yoga class at the beach or the fitness center and we still didn't get a final answer and left annoyed. It's the little things that make you decided if you'd come back or not.... Limited room service menu which is annoying. The hotel itself is spacious and did not feel crowded at all. Access to other hotels was avail on the grounds but we didn't feel the need to venture there. The room was very nice and bed very comfortable. Grounds were really nice. Pool area could use some TLC. Most of the servers were very friendly. Had an obnoxious bar tender when I asked for a cup of water and a not so friendly server at pool towards end of day. Beach is really nice and kept clean. Servers at the beach were great. Food really good. Annoying how you have to reserve restaurants ahead of time which I get but they filled up quickly and nothing before 8pm even booking 4 nights out. The French and "Japanese" restaurants were delicious. The Italian was lame. Buffet was always well stocked with tons of options. Definitely a 55+ kind of place. We took our 23 and 19 yr old hoping there'd be more of that age for them but not, and that was ok. They were happy with beach, margarita and chill...

Gorgeous property and stunning architechture!

Overall, our stay was wonderful! Beautiful property, friendly staff, lots of activities. Rooms were large, the lanai gorgeous, beds are comfortable and pillows great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Activities were plentiful and there is an excellent workout class selection at the fitness center. We enjoyed the evening music at the Lobby Bar. It varied from violin, saxophone, piano, singer etc. We did not go to any of the paid shows. Games by the activity pool were a ton of fun and we ended each day with a drink at the swim up bar. The drink service from the shaded pool seats is slower than we expected and although the waitresses were friendly, they often forgot something or got an order wrong. The shopping mall is a nice place to walk but basically overpriced souvenirs and sundries. I loved being able to get coffee super early at the Star Café in Lobby Lindo. I am up around 5:00 AM so I appreciated it being open. I walked the 10 minute walk every morning in the dark with no concerns. There was a nice lobby at Lindo to sit and enjoy morning coffee. The resort could do better serving drinks in the correct drinkware. At a 5 star resort, all frozen drinks should be served in a hurricane glass. Hot coffee from a plastic cup is concerning and a cold bloody Mary from a paper cup loses its appeal. Mixed drinks were weak and some were mixed totally incorrectly. We tossed a few out. Make sure to explore the 4 other hotels on premises since they all have beautiful grounds and lobbies. If you like to walk, you can explore for hours. Food was mediocre and not worthy of a 5 star resort. French onion soup had no bread in it and no cheese melted on it. Steak from the steak house was so fatty we could not eat it. The buffet had a good selection and was refreshed regularly but it was not as good as other resorts we stayed at. We would prefer not to have to make dinner reservations on our vacation and there were some restaurants we could not get in to. Even with the concierge help we could not get into some of our choices.

Waves of change

ewaleus (Kildeer, Illinois) on Apr 02, 2024

We stayed here for 11 days. We could tell, this hotel was beautiful in the beginning, but now it looks a bit tired and outdated. The walls between the rooms are so thin, we couldn't sleep because guy in the next room kept snoring. Finally on the 3rd night we had to switch the room! Never happened in any of the hotels we stayed at. Grounds are very beautiful, the beach is nice and wide, buy sea is full of rocks and very rough, hard to enjoy. Food is mediocre, I got sick on 3 occasions, after dinner in French, Italian and Mexican restaurant (worst food I ever had in Mexican place, seems like the chef doesn't know how to cook) Our favorite was Japanese. Dress code in the restaurants is non existence and people just don't care to dress up nicely for dinner, which should be required. There is buffet for those who don't want to dress up. I have to say that they offer the best house wine selections out of all hotels we've been to. The shows are not what it used to be, non were good enough to pick our interest long enough to stay. Magic show which is extra, was good, but totally not worth paying for. One time we went to Maya next door for dinner and stayed for the kids show out of curiosity, since our kids enjoyed Iberostar shows, and still have some of the songs on their Playlist. What a disaster, grumpy looking crab screaming at kids throughout the shows about the need to care of the oceans, etc., part of waves of change initiative. There is time and place to teach kids about caring about the environment and this isn't it. Another company going woke. I doubt any of the kids enjoyed that show. What a difference, what a disaster. I loved Iberostar Hotels (stayed in 6 others), we saw the changes in Grand Bavaro last year, but thought it was due to covid. We have no interest in going back to any of the Iberostar Hotels. The highlight was the service.

You won't be disappointed!

James L on Apr 01, 2024

I am going to start my review slightly different and give a shout out the three best employees at the Iberostar Grand. A special thanks to Gonzalo, Eli, and Lulilly at the Rhapsody Bar. You guys are amazing and always make sure we are taken care of. See you in September! I will try to be brief because most people hate long reviews. This was our third time at the Grand in a period of a couple years, and that should tell you something. Adults only resort and the service is incredible. We have been staying for 5 days each time because it comes with a private transfer to and from the airport at no additional charge. We always ride by ourselves (The wife and I) in a SUV with no other travelers. The food is amazing and there are numerous options. We like the idea of having a quiet pool sometimes, even though the main pool doesn't get too crazy. It's one of the best all inclusive resorts we've experienced. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Shoot me a message if you have any specific questions.
