Service was amazing. Everyone is working so hard to keep you happy. Special shout-out to Carlos at Las Olas and the buffet breakfast. He always remembered our lunch order and went above what we asked.
Resort and grounds
The resort looks a bit older but you can tell that they work hard to upkeep everything. The grounds are beautiful with all the lush greenery and plants. You are going to see plenty of birds, iguanas, lizards, and a lemur too. We ended up staying in three different rooms because I wanted to upgrade but it wasn’t available the first night. We stayed in a Junior Suite (1104) for one night, the Rooftop Terrace (6336) for 3 nights and a Swimup Suite (6031) for one night. All of the rooms have essentially the same layout. My favorite room would be the RTT because the location was secluded. It was on the highest floor in the corner which was nice and quiet. The only thing about the RTT is that there is no light at night so you are restricted to using it during the day. Also the rooftop is completely uncovered so it was soaked from the rain so we couldn’t use it so if the weather doesn’t permit you won’t be able to use it.
Service is slowwwww and you will wait for table if you arrive after 7pm. My favorite restaurants were Las Olas for lunch and Agave and Chez for dinner. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get reservations at Spice. It’s the only restaurant that takes reservations only. I tried to make a reservation on Friday which is the day we checked in. I was told that reservations were booked for that night, Saturday and Sunday. I was advised to come back on Sunday after 5pm to book for the upcoming week. I arrived at the concierge at 5:30 pm and was again told that the restaurant was booked for Monday and it was closed on Tuesday. We checked out on Wednesday morning. I feel like a different system should be put in place to give everyone the opportunity to dine.
We booked the hydrotherapy with massage and also a couples pedicure. Everything was great and everyone was kind and attentive. Really enjoyed the hydrotherapy.
The resort does a good job of finding fun activities for everyone to do. Our favorite activities were karaoke, the silent party, and cocktail tasting.
The beach is full of seaweed and it rained the majority of our trip so most people gathered at the pools. If you are a beach person, this is not the place you want to be. I love the beach but was unable to get in the water at all with all the seaweed. They had workers trying to clear the seaweed but it didn’t help from what I can tell.
Also, most of the chairs with covers are taken. People try to save them with towels but we removed towels several times to get a seat. The pools vary in the degree of warmth as well. Some pools a bit colder and some are warmer. It could have been the rainy weather affecting this.
The lazy river doesn’t really move that much but it’s fun to float and relax. It can hard to find floats available and the towels are closer to the main pool area.
Our COVID testing was super quick and easy. We went to the ballroom about 10 minutes before our appointment and there was no wait. We were done in minutes and received our results in an hour.
When we were checking out I noticed that they changed the location of the testing to the left side of the front desk and there was a long line. Not sure what changed but it could depend on the amount of people that need to be tested.
Also wanted to note that no guests wear masks anywhere on the resort even indoors. The employees however do a great job with wearing effective masks in all locations. Tables are spaced apart and there is a plastic shield at the buffet.
If we were traveling back to the area, we would definitely return.
Wedding at Excellence Riviera Cancun
Jun 15, 2021
My wife and I just got married at Excellence Riviera Cancun a couple weeks ago. It was hands down the best week of our life and the resort and employees had a lot to do with it. Our wedding coordinator, Monserrat Estrada, was amazing! She had everything planned for us just as we imagined. Every detail in the decorations, music, food, and locations on the resort were thought through and taken care of. She is very timely in the planning process and very easy to communicate with. We can’t thank her enough for the wedding she coordinated for us.
The resort is hands down one of the best places to visit in Cancun. We had phenomenal service and the rooms, restaurants, pool, you name it were very clean. The entertainment team was a blast! The events the resort hosted made the whole week extremely memorable. We highly recommend visiting Excellence Riviera Cancun. And if you’re considering a destination wedding venue.. this is the place to do it!!
