Yo volveré aquí—- I will return here

Bozena H (Lindsay, Canada) on Jan 31, 2023

From the first “hola” to the last “ adiós “, our experience was fantastic. Staff at the hotel aim to please. There is a bit of a language barrier, but their English or French or German is better than my Spanish. We made an effort to communicate with all staff with our broken Spanish and our efforts were appreciated. TOPOGRAPHY Perched on a cliff overlooking the bay on one side and the town of Samana on the other. Stairs-many of them. But golf carts are available. POOLS The main pool is large, has a swim up bar. It is a place for all the daytime entertainment. Loungers aplenty, sun umbrellas and towel shack that never runs out of towels. ENTERTAINMENT TEAM New manager in place:Rolando. Awesome guy with more energy and humour anyone can ask for. Daily activities are lead by Michael,Antony,Estefani and SharLain. Evening entertainment is varied:some local talent, some in-house and some professionals. Most very good. BEACH Small and private(mostly). Local vendors are set up at one end of it. They are not bothering you at all. There is a beach bar, water sport shack and of course you get to the beach by an elevator!! BUFFET Always a great selection of food. Made to order stations offer pasta, meats and fish, cooked as you like it. A LA CARTE Trying them all is a must. Service and good quality are excellent. And look up FRANCISCO (waiter)- nicest smile and best server, hands down. Our travel companion used the hotel’s manicure service and was thrilled. ACCOMMODATIONS We stayed at villa 31, room 26, second floor From our balcony we saw whales frolicking in the ocean Room is specious, had all the amenities,AC worked well and your maid will help you with anything you need. There were 77 stairs from the villa to the pool deck Ouch! But we did it. Or call for your golf cart And, as the song goes: “Yo volvere aqui”

My wife and I stayed at the Bahia Principe Grand Cayacoa on December 5-12, 2022. Let’s start with the good…the resort has only been open a few weeks since closing for the pandemic. Not everything is running smoothly yet, but no major issues were encountered until Saturday and Sunday. We arrived on a Monday and the staff were all very pleasant and friendly through our stay. The room was average. There were water issues on several floors (friends complained of leaks and water leaking from closets in hallways daily). Food was fine, nothing exceptional as some reviews stated. The trouble on the weekend started when a bus load of DR islanders showed up to stay for the weekend. The place immediately transformed from calm and relaxing to loud and unruly. On Saturday, a woman we had met earlier in the week shared with us at dinner what had happened to her that day. While she was lying on her beach chair some of these young male new arrivals sat on the chairs next to her and began bothering her-to the point she had to leave the beach. She went to the pool and couldn’t stay there either. Where there had been no issue getting a pool chair at any time of day throughout the week, the new arrivals changed that. The worst part was the volume of noise and the food mess in the pool and on the deck, she said. Then Sunday, my wife was in the ocean, not even 10 meters off shore, and two males that had arrived from Nagua, DR began circling her on the kayaks they had borrowed from the resort (that’s how I know where they were from- I saw a copy of the form they filled out). They began sexually harassing her and asking for fellatio (I apologize for the graphic detail). When I saw the gestures they were making I immediately ran into the water from the shore, along with another gentleman who saw what was going on, and they were scared off. We reported it to the security guard that was down at the end of the beach. They didn’t wait for the men to return the kayaks to detain them. They simply said go file a report at reception. We went to the front desk and they had us fill out a report. I informed the Transat, Air Canada, and WestJet representatives because they could see that we were upset and wanted to know what had happened. They said they were filing their own reports with their companies. Now you have been forewarned. If this resort is going to allow an influx of guests of this size on the weekends then they need to increase the security presence as well-especially on the beach. Speaking of the beach, you won’t be able to go for a long walk unless you wish to walk back and forth continuously. Some of the guests we met like this resort and have returned multiple times. I, however, will not return, and we spoke to several others that feel the same as we do. I find the Bahia El Portillo and Samana Wyndham V, both on the north shore of the Samana Peninsula, far nicer with larger stretches of beach to walk on. Local merchants on the beach blare the same local music day in day out-not relaxing. I’m sure I will get the standard reply from the hotel, “Thank you, and were sorry, blah, blah, blah,” but that doesn’t do me any good-please do not waste your time patronizing me unless you have something to offer in compensation. Oh, and btw, the hotel first offered us a reservation at the Italian ala carte on our last evening which happened to be the same time and same restaurant that we already had a reservation at. Then they offered us a $5 bottle of wine - as if either of those offerings mean anything significant at an ALL-INCLUSIVE RESORT! Last bit about some form of compensation…my wife had earlier scheduled an appointment at the spa. That appt ended up being one hour after she had been sexually harassed on the beach. Needless to say she wasn’t very relaxed while receiving her facial massage. We suggested to the hotel that they compensate us for that service. They were willing to do so but kept changing what the requirements were going to be. First they said only she would need to sign a form and provide a copy of her passport. When the time came to sign they said I needed to sign the form and provide a copy of my passport as well. I looked at the form and basically it was legal jargon that would have prevented me from writing a review to warn other guests, like you, about what happened. We refused to sign. Hope this helps you make an informed decision for your vacation

My visit to the Bahia Principe Cayacoa Samana

Sue C on Jan 15, 2023

The resort is situated on a mountain which have beautiful views. The personnel’s from the front desk, bar, restaurants, cleaning crew and entertainments were so friendly and all happy to serve. The food is actually not bad, the restaurants have served good food as well. the first day we got a standard room which we have paid for, but the bathroom was made for children not even teens can fit in it. The only way to have a bigger bathroom is to upgrade to a junior suite and we paid a special rate of 250 USD more. All the rooms of the hotel need renovations and updates, they are too old and the bathrooms are to desire, Clean, but too old for what the hotel claim to be a 5 stars. Obviously they have huge issues with pluming and the smell in the rooms like sewers, when the rooms are cleaned they must spray perfume to hide the smell but I have a very sensitive nose. The pool is cold. The drinks are not to the standard the hotel claim to be. There is no consistency. We had issues booking the restaurants, they told us they are closed and when I complained they opened them, the reason then we heard from another manager that the restaurants are full, but when we were in the restaurant they were not full as they claimed. The hotel is not full but when I asked to extend the check out time to 5 as our flight is at 930 PM and the check out time is at 12pm they told me to pay 35usd so we decided to pay 15 USD to check out at 3 instead which I think it is too cheap. I had to take my shower with my sandals as the water would back up in the shower , the toilet was clogged and had a plumber come to fix it. One time I went to the room to change I found 4 men in the bathroom and plumbers working on the bathtub and the smell and dirt was disgusting. 1 day we had no water in the room and that was for most of the rooms in the hotel. When it rain there is leaks everywhere in the hotel restaurants and bars. The hotel has a huge potential to be a 5 stars but the chain need to update and put some money into it. The hotel in general is clean. The cleaning crew did great job to keep the hotel and the rooms clean. I will not come Back to this hotel and will not suggest my clients to come as well until it is all renovated and updated. I added some pictures to back my review.

Good/Average Resort - Always a chair with an umbrella available! Pool & Beach!

nicolehH1042AT (Otterville, Canada) on Jan 12, 2023

Resort staff are very friendly and helpful. A lot of their English is minimal. So asking complex questions or making special orders may be hard (if you need to) We did not. There is a Disco that is open, but hardly anyone went. I believe if the resort would like more people to go and stay they should play more English 'top 40' music that the visitors would know. They only played Spanish music when we went and I think that turned most people away. The DJ did take requests! Food & Drinks were great! We did not have any stomach issues. There is a free shuttle into town every hour if you wish to go. We could ALWAYS get a chair with an umbrella at both the pool & the beach anytime of day. This is a first for me. NO need to wake up early and reserve chairs. This was a very pleasant surprise. They resort was not over crowded. Silent Disco night was great!

Rooms need some renovation their should be outlets on both sides of the bed it’s 2022 we all have cell phones, IPads etc to charge. the bathrooms in the standard rooms are more for munchkin children then adults very small! We were with someone handicapped and he had to try and get into the bathtub to take a shower they don’t have handicapped rooms here. We basically ate at the buffet every night because the restaurants are not opened Mondays and the other two were already booked up the rest of the week so be prepared! We managed to get our representative of AirCanada vacations to get us a reservation for 2 of them but very late. Not much to do here resort is very small the staff is amazing very friendly and always smiling! The resort is very nice and we had the pool at the snack bar pretty much to ourselves it’s a quiet resort but not for kids they would be bored especially under 18! All in all I would not say don’t come here as it is a nice place but far from the airport about 45to 60 minutes. The beach is full of rocks so make sure you bring water shoes. If something is wrong in your room they accommodate you right away so that’s a plus. Make sure you keep a key in the slot in your room at all times for the air conditioning and don’t leave the patio door if you have one open.Every resort has quirks and I have definitely stayed in worse would I come back probably not as I prefer Punta Cana!
