Great Resort with Potential to be Outstanding

Brooke M on Jun 17, 2021

We stayed at Paradise Point for spring break with two other families. We had six adults and 10 children ranging in ages from 17 to 5 years old. Let me start by saying we all had a fantastic time together. This really is a great place to family vacation. I think it’s just good to set expectations for what the resort is and what it is not. This is a solid, slightly kitschy, family resort. Each of our three families had two rooms (we booked premium lagoon view rooms). Rooms facing the sand and ocean are Bayside rooms and rooms facing gardens and ponds interior to the property are the Garden and Lagoon rooms. We were not made aware that if you want adjoining rooms, you need to book one room that is two queens and one in the same category that is a king room. I called to make all of our reservations together because I wanted the six rooms to be in the same area of the resort and to have adjoining rooms to each of our children’s rooms. We were reasonably close to each other, which was wonderful. However, nobody had adjoining rooms with their children because we were booked in all queen/queen rooms. The family in our adjoining room had the same issue, but with two king bedrooms. I feel like this could be a little more clearly communicated in the reservation process, both online and when calling in. We have two type 1 diabetic children that often have to be given insulin or something with carbs to eat to bring up blood glucose levels in the night…so having to wander outside between rooms in the middle of the night was less than ideal. I talked to the front desk when we checked-in and realized rooms weren’t adjoining. They were super nice but there was no fixing it. They offered to cut our parking fee in half (parking is expensive). Which was nice to offer, but they didn’t come through with it in the final bill. Our rooms were newly updated. One of our rooms had a broom and dustpan in it (I wonder if left there by a previous guest because nobody else had a broom in their room and we just shared it across the six rooms) which was wonderful to have to get rid of sand on the tile floors. (The rooms were not being cleaned daily because of Covid.) The kids had a great time in the hotel pools and paddle boarding in the bay. We visited some area beaches. (Ocean Beach – fun waves, serious hippy vibe. Mission Beach – there was a bad rip tide the day we visited so it was a little stressful with the kids but still fun. Coronado Island - awesome beach for the kids…our favorite we visited.) There is an abundance of restaurants in the area and a Vons and Trader Joes up the street. The resort is solid and great. I would say small things make the resort a tier below what it COULD be. The beaches are not kept up like you would see at luxury resorts. The landscaping while overall very pretty was a bit hit and miss (large weeds were common around the units and one of our units had yellow caution tape around the building during the entire stay). The rooms are updated but corners are cut on small things…like taping hardware off before new paint leaving a sloppy look. There is no spare parking. Luckily, we each had two units and one car so we could usually work it out with one of our spare spots, but people were always parking in our units’ assigned parking spots and there was no enforcement by staff. So, if someone parks in your spot there’s nowhere to park and it’s a huge hassle. Given the price you pay per day to park, I wish this was handled a bit better. There was a water and ice machine by the pool which was really nice, and we used it daily. All the staff that we interacted with were great. The property is large and beautiful to walk around. The kids had a great time riding bikes/scooters/skateboards around. We had a fire on the beach one night and it was lovely. They have a good coffee shop/sundries store that has a good variety of things to purchase as well as pre-made sandwiches, parfaits, etc. Overall, we had a great stay, and it was a good time had by all.

Beautiful grounds, stellar location

26sherig (Stockton, California) on Jun 09, 2021

Rooms dated and needed an update, but the property is stunning. Great beach location, multiple pools and lots to do. Everything is a la carte, so costs can add up over the course of an extended stay. Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. Did not get a chance to try out the restaurant. Not all facilities were completely open yet after Covid, but most everything was.. Great family option if you're not on a tight budget.

3 out of 4 pools were not heated, 3 out of 4 hot tubs were not working, big pool restaurant was closed due to lack of staff. Considering rates per night, all pools hot tubs and restaurants etc should be working

Unique Hotel experience

betsykschulz (Del Mar, California) on Jun 06, 2021

This resort is very special. So much better than a multi-story hotel experience. We loved staying in the bungalow. Birdwatchers, this is your hotel. The lagoons harbor a variety of amazing bird life you can experience up close and personal.
