Disapointed

The Bel jou is marketed as a quiet, romantic hotel this is laughable. On the positive side the every day staff are fantastic. We stayed at the hotel in May the first few days were peaceful then a large group checked in of approx 40 they were loud rude and disrespectful the management did little to alleviate a bad situation. Eventually this large group left followed by a group of sports people who were no better, this ruined our holiday.
Not one for the discerning traveller

We have just returned home having checked out early as it wasn’t for us. An airbrush on photos can do wonders we feel. To start with the good things , the majority of staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast was the best meal of the day . Lovely ice cream at Lulu’s. For us the downside was the poor standard of our room, along with the rest of the hotel which is tired , the mattresses had seen better days, we struggled to sleep, and the bathroom was particularly poor. Much was broken and didn’t work. The beach towels were worn and almost transparent, Ms. Polizzi (TV’s Hotel Inspector) would have a field day ! Mosquitoes are a problem, the hotel try their best with a weekly fog resulting in a sickly and all pervading smell of deet all the time. At nightfall the tree frogs make a continuous racket which can be heard in most parts of the hotel including our room , you can’t help nature because the hotel’s grounds are their home, however you can’t get away from the noise. The surrounding area is extremely poor and would have been dangerous to walk out of the complex as non locals. The beach shuttle operated on a limited basis. In our view the hotel falls short of its ‘TTTT’ rating and our experience didn’t match up to what we had expected, hence our premature departure. We left 3 days after arrival ,, simply couldn’t stand the place - we could use many detrimental adjectives about this place . Takes all sorts we guess and it wasn’t for us,
