Nice resort, needs some love

My husband and I stayed at this resort on 6/24/22-7/2/22 in the Sunset Bluff Honeymoon Oceanfront One Bedroom Butler Villa Suite with Private Pool (BS) room. First, I want to say to be fair that is the rating should be closer to 3.5 stars and this is not a reflection on the staff of this resort, it is a reflection on Sandals corporate and the decisions that I feel they made that effected our stay. I will explain later in my review. Don’t get me wrong, we had a good time and met some wonderful people We did the helicopter transfer to and from the resort and the fast track on arrival. This is the best money that we spent. We landed at 12pm and arrived at the resort at around 1:30pm. The only downside is that our luggage did not arrive to around 7pm. We were told this was a possibility, so we packed bathing suits and a change of clothes for dinner in our carryon. Upon arrival to the resort, one of our butlers, Don (DONNNNNN THE BUTLERRRRRRRRR!!! ??) , escorted us to your “Suite”. Our room (#7) was smaller and more dated than expected but was very clean and had amazing views. For those who are wondering, yes, the private pool attached to the suite is cold, but was very refreshing after walking up the hill. The floorplan is just odd. The bathroom is very small. I think we would have happier in the 2-story butler suite. Our butlers for the stay were Don, Garvy and Sydney. There are an amazing team and took very good care of us. We had a standing order for coffee, pastries, and fruit every morning at 7:30 and they were there every morning with a smile on their faces and started our day wonderfully. They decorated our bed throughout our stay, left us treats in our room and made sure that everything was taken care of. We woke up one morning to the A/C not working and the refrigerator not running. We mentioned it to Sydney when he delivered our coffee (we had only been awake for about 10 minutes) and he sprung into action. He was on the phone so fast and had a repair person knocking on our door within 5 minutes. It was a blown fuse and took about another 5 minutes to fix. As I stated it rained a lot during our stay. We would call for rides up the hill and they were always there quickly. As amazing as they were, these poor guys were run ragged. Most butler teams have a max of 6 couples that they are taking care of during their stay. These gentlemen had 7 to 9 couples at any given time. Put the rain on top of that and everyone calling for rides, they ran, a lot! The setting for the resort is beautiful. There are great views everywhere you look. All the facilities are very clean, however upon closer inspection, you will notice a lot of delayed maintenance. This resort was built in 1993 and it is starting to show. We had 2 massages at the Spa during our stay. The entire spa staff is wonderful! Zenna and Vincetia (sp) were our massage therapist both time and did an amazing job. It rained a lot during our stay, so we sat with a great group of people in the hot tub by the Bluff Pool almost every day. Shout out to the hot tub gang, Rodney and Kim, Casey and Big Red, Lindsay and Chris and Jill and Dave to just to name a few. We sat in the hot tub, in the rain, had cocktails talked and laughed. Every once a while a staff member would venture out in the rain and bring us cocktails and snacks. We would also take turns calling our butlers and ordering pizza for everyone in the hot tub. The only meal that we had any complaints about at all was the returning guest dinner (you would think it would have been the best). The “filet” was so tough you could not saw through it with the steak knife. The sushi at Soy is very good. We had a great time at Kimonos our tablemates were so funny, and they chef was very entertaining (I wish I could remember his name because he was great!). The coffee rubbed Ribeye at Pitons may have been the one of the best steaks I have ever had and the filet at La Toc was very good as well. The Chicken Parmesan and the pasta Bolognese at Armando’s is great. Armando’s was also our favorite venue for breakfast every morning. There are a few staff stood out for their amazing attitudes, smiles, and overall professionalism: • The entire housekeeping team. Thank you so much for keeping our room so clean. • Fiona, Gilliana and the sushi chefs at Soy (I am so sorry I didn’t get your names). • Cathy, Theresa, Christi, Yannik and Teron at Armando’s. Great team! • Richard the Chef at La Toc came out and asked us about our meal. (It was amazing) • Yasmin and Ella at the Bluff Pool (Ella also filled in at Armando’s) • Finally, as restaurant owners we know what it is like to have to fill in the gaps when needed. On our final day we had breakfast at Armando’s and noticed that they were struggling a little. A man in a blue polo with a walkie talkie came in and started expediting and running food and like magic, everything began to flow. I walked up and asked if he was the F&B manager and he said he was. I thanked him for stepping up to help for is his team and told him that everything was amazing. Michael, great job! You stepped up and showed your staff what a leader is and does. Now…why the 3.5 stars? The biggest problem was not the staff, but the fact that so many of them were very new. This is our third Sandals vacation, so we know what to expect. Usually, the staff is on top of everything, proactive and just amazing. We noticed a few things at first, slower than usually service, orders arriving incorrectly, confusion on order taking, etc. We are in the restaurant industry, so we know the challenges of training new staff, therefore showed more patience then most. Once we started conversations, we noticed that a lot of the staff was saying that they were new. By new, I mean on the resort for less than a week. When I made a comment regarding so many new staff members, we were told that they took most of the experienced staff to Curacao because this the grand opening week and they needed experienced people there to make a good impression to the VIP’s that would be attending! I find this very disturbing!! There are people who paid a great deal of money for this vacation, including us and deserve the same level of service as the customers in Curacao. To be treated like second class customers because we didn’t choose the newest resort is beyond upsetting. We are booked for Grenada in 2023 and Curacao in 2024, we are having second thoughts about these vacations.
Highly recommend

We did a very belated honeymoon ( 10 years later)! La toc was amazing! We had butlers Andrew / Lucius / Ferguson cannot say enough good things about these men. Always cheerful always helpful and going above and beyond. La toc for dinner was amazing food and service. Kayanna our server was so sweet and made us feel like friends we came back again two nights later for her and the steak! Chef came out to shake out hand which was so nice ! Our couples massage was the best I’ve ever had. Eventho we had a rainy trip it was the best!
