Sandals more like a flip FLOP

This is a tough one as there was some very good and very bad. Let’s start with the positive. Butler service was A1 top notch … could not ask for more. Very very happy. Food was excellent other than the Buffet very limited selection and poorly restocked. This was our first time at a Sandals and it was our honeymoon. We notified the resort prior to our arrival, sent a wedding invite as required…. No acknowledgement whatsoever. Even after we were asked on more than one occasion if we were celebrating anything. Disappointing Finally the resort overall is very dated and in dire need of renovations. The rooms and buildings are showing their age. This resort is at best a 4 star and for all the hype of being a “Sandals” we were very disappointed for what it cost. That is the most important consideration of all, the cost versus the quality. That’s what this review is based on. We paid a substantial price and did not get the quality resort for what we paid for, not even close.

Poor costumer service

I typically do not write poor reviews but I feel it to be necessary so those planning special and expensive vacations can be well informed. This is not a 5 star luxury resort by any means. The resort and rooms are very outdated (staff were actually doing minor Reno’s while we were there so hopefully that means major changes will come elsewhere). Expect that the AC in your rooms will not fully work or cool your room to the desired temperature on the thermostat. Very small bathrooms, uncomfortable mattress and analogue tv. The jacuzzi in the main pool was out of commission our entire stay with a sign “treatment in progress”. Food was good throughout the resort…no complaints on the quality of food, was certainly not 5 star but was definitely good enough. However food service was poor. The wait times were insane and on more than one occasion servers forgot our order as we sat there waiting for our meals. If you think you’re grabbing a quick lunch at any of the “fast food” options … expect to still be waiting an hour. We waited 50 minutes for 2 crepes. We had a mix of pleasant and unpleasant servers which was disappointing as the unpleasant servers outweighed the pleasant and ruined the dining experience. The bars / restaurants are constantly running out of basic things…straws, beer!?, mint for mojitos. Fine but certainly not a 5 star luxury experience. We paid extra for the “club sandals” upgrade which is a total rip off. Aside from the staff in club sandals being extremely unhelpful, and really quite honestly amateur costumer service employees, your told you have access to snacks and drinks at any hours in the special club sandals room however your lucky if there is the occasional cookies or croissant (same as what you can receive in the lobby or bayside’s) and after 10pm there is nothing. Upon our arrival I called to our club sandals special concierge for a pen to fill out the laundry bag requirements. I waited an hour… no pen. I called again…had to wait another hour for a pen. Finally I was able to send my laundry down to be done. After 3 days of not receiving the laundry back I called again to our “special” club sandal’s concierge and we were informed they would look into it. Never received a call back or my laundry so the next day I call again….given the same promise that it will be looked into. I then receive a call the NEXT day that my laundry has been lost but they have some items with no labels to be identified .. sure enough it’s my items. I finally receive my clothing only for my dress to be completely shrunk from a floor length to knee length dress despite care label instructions being available. I call our “very helpful” club sandals immediately and they seem bothered by my complaint and inform me a manager will contact me. This is at 0830. I hear nothing again all day. The next day i receive a courtesy call to ask how my stay is etc I have to then repeat the entire story again as there is no communication clearly and no one has been made aware. A manager Nadia finally contacts me, request that I bring the dress to her so that it can be inspected (inconveniencing our time rather than her walk to our room and pick it up…). After 2 days of her having my dress for “inspection” I hear nothing back. Upon our check out we are informed that we are being credited for the cost of the dress. When I ask for my dress back I am told I cannot have it back since the resort is crediting the cost. In speaking with the manager Nadia about this insane policy in which she never informed me of when taking my item… she was completely unprofessional. Again, very amateur costumer service. We spent the last hours of our time at Sandals with this experience and treatment….not good. On a positive note I must say the playmakers / entertainment team were absolutely incredible and kind throughout our stay. If it weren’t for them our experience wouldn’t have been good. The shows were great and there is some extremely talented individuals on that team. My only issue is that this group of talented individuals are performing in a crowded lobby, make shift “stage” area, with limited seating. I wonder why there is not an appropriate set up for these performers to perform their talent. I have been to 3.5 - 4 stars in Dominican Republic with stages for their entertainment team. All and all I would love to come back to St Lucia however will choose another resort, not a Sandals. Our expectations were high and our disappointing experience cannot be justified.
