Our room was lovely and clean, with an amazing bathroom with a toilet in it's own room. Staff was absolutely wonderful, friendly, kind, easy going etc. Food was amazing and staff at the restaurant was great. Shout out to Liam and Sushil!

I was impressed by what I saw on their website and therefore booked a 3-nights visit to the resort, from Tuesday, June 21 to Friday, June 24, 2022.
Our room (1 bedroom suite with water-view) was awesome. It has a great view, a nice big balcony, and a 55” TV with Netflix and Prime Video. Our bed was comfortable although I didn't sleep well the first night and discovered in the morning that they put a queen duvet inside a king cover. So I didn't get much on my side and was cold during the night. Amenities in the kitchen were adequate although we never cooked in that kitchen. We had coffee, yoghurt and fruits for breakfast in our room but had lunch and dinner in the resort. There was a kettle but it wasn’t an electric one as stated in their room description. It was supposed to whistle when the water was boiled but the one we had didn’t. So be careful about this as you might forget when you are out on the balcony.
All our meals purchased in the resort were either good or very good. The 8 oz Filet Mignon ($69) in the Muskoka Chophouse was the best I have ever had, juicy, tender, tasty and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The grilled asparagus and lobster tail ($MP) were also perfectly cooked. The Prime Rib Sandwich from the Lounge was delicious although the Caesar Salad was flat and average only. The Cottages has a very limited menu and left much to be desired. A Spaghetti and a Hamburger costs $62 in total (gratuity excluded). Services from all restaurants were courteous, friendly and efficient.
When I say what you see is not what you’ll get, it is based on the followings:
Upon arrival at the resort, we found out that the Teca Restaurant was not available until Thursday. I had made a reservation before arrival but no one clued us in until we were ready to dine.
Check-in and check-out were slow and atrocious. Upon check-in, I was told that we were not expected until Wednesday. When I produced my printed confirmation, he said that’s not what their booking system said. It was only until I showed him my BonVoy App’s confirmation that he backed down (only trust the computer I guess) and agreed to give us a room but we would have to wait 3 – 4 hours for it to be ready. I flew a fit and demanded to speak to a manager or his supervisor. He disappeared into the back office. After what seemed like 10 minutes, he reappeared to tell us there would be a room for us soon. We arrived around 4:48 PM and didn’t get into our room until 5:56 PM.
Upon check-out, the staff who attended to me held my printed receipt, and then walked away to help another staff, leaving me waiting. He could have given it to me first so that I could at least check it while waiting. Consequently, I only checked to see if all charges were ours and neglected to check their daily room rate. I was overcharged for the first night. When I called them from home, I was again told that the rate I was charged was right according to their system. I had to scan and send my printed confirmation as proof before they will look into it, the same reservation confirmation I had already presented to their staff on arrival. Check-in took 1 hr 8 min. Check-out took 20 min.
The ground is beautiful but not a pleasure to walk around as some reviewers said. They forgot to mention the steep stairs, and there are many of them. We found out later that we could have used the bridge to cross over to the lower building, which would be its 4th floor and then took the elevator to its ground level to reach the beach. There are still some steps to manage. I expected lots of walking trails but there were none that I could see. The Country Market was just a tiny little room. I never visited it because it was only open from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, not till 6 PM as stated on their website.
There was nothing within walking distance. Guest Parking is at a lower ground about 3-5 minutes away. The Deck is not open and the Muskoka Ice Caves restaurant is nowhere in sight. There is no lakeside Bistro and wood-fire Pizza Oven. A cocktail costs at least $19. The lower pool and kids' splash pad are closed. We don’t know where the indoor/outdoor pool is. It is probably within the Spa. We have to pay a $49 resort fee per day but we cannot use the Spa. To visit the Spa, we need to purchase the HydroSpa Day Pass. The cost is $100 per day per person which would be waived if you purchase a treatment over $185.
On the days of our visit, they have a couple of conferences going on. Lots of areas were inaccessible because they were reserved for “private” functions. The Muskoka Chophouse doesn’t look like the picture posted on their website. It was a lot smaller with only 5-6 tables. There was a loud talker on the evening of our visits which made the evening less enjoyable. It was our anniversary night which I had mentioned in our reservation. We didn’t get any acknowledgement at all.
We are city folks and we were bored in this resort. If I wanted to watch TV or a movie, I could have done it in our Home Theatre, instead of driving 245 km to watch them on a sofa bed, lol. Rosseau is 18 km away, about 20 minutes drive from the resort. There is very limited shopping there. Nothing like Niagara-on-the-lake or Gravenhurst. The Rosseau Bakery & Variety has very excellent butter tarts but is very dumpy in appearance. I wonder about its cleanliness in food handling. There is a general store which has a meat counter in the back and a hardware section in a corner. We bought a blueberry pie from them (not made on-site) and it was very good. The Crossroads restaurant across from the Rosseau General Store is also very good but very noisy.
On our way home to Oakville, we stopped by Port Carling, a bigger town, and had lunch in a restaurant called Portside Fusion. It was surprisingly nice. I had a Tuna Poke and my husband had a Burger. They were both very good and the coffee was amazing.
Like my son loves to say, “all show no go”. That sums up our experience at JW Marriott Rosseau, high in price but short in value.

Staff accommodating, respectful, welcoming. Excellent front desk and restaurant service.
Food top notch.
Pool large, clean, ample lounge chairs inside and out.
King bed comfort compromised by shrivelling mattress pad.
Waterview suite balcony superb; great for snoozing, reading, sipping and taking it all in.

Our room, view and level of comfort for sleep was superb. But the biggest testament to J W Rousseau is the calibre of staff working there. I left my phone in a sitting area and it was turned in within minutes by one of their staff. Wow!! From our family to all of you thank you for the wonderful stay!!
Beautiful setting, food and furnishing need an update

Arrived at the resort but self parking was too far from the main building so opted for valet parking. Called for car a few times during our stay, but it was not at the front when we came down 10 minutes later. Setting is stupendous and the view takes your breath away. Unfortunately it was raining for the 2 days of our stay. Plenty of young employees in all venues who are eager to help but they are mostly tentative and unsure of themselves, probably the covid reality of rehiring after all the shut downs. Some areas have been nicely refurbished but many sitting rooms are still in need of updating, including the room in which we stayed. Loved the size and layout of the suite.
