Ideal little gem on Grace Bay!

dmccrann (Barnegat, New Jersey) on Jun 04, 2021

I stayed here in May 2021 for 4 nights 5 days and we loved it here. I stumbled upon a deal Ocean Club West had online that included breakfast and a studio room. The rooms all had full kitchens equipped with everything- you name it, it was all there for you. The rooms also all had a netted balcony, which was nice while enjoying pre-dinner drinks. We did not spring for the ocean-view suite, we were totally fine with the garden suite, although we heard through the grapevine from other guests the ocean-view suites were not as stellar as to be expected. If you are pinching pennies together like we were, the garden suite is completely acceptable as well as only a 5 minute walk from the beach. The restaurant at this resort was where we had our daily breakfast, as well as some of our dinners. The food was all great, but WOW, bring your wallet because it is EXPENSIVE. You'll spend $15 on a basic cocktail and $20 on a burger entree. Prepare yourselves that the food everywhere on the island is very pricey. The beach is phenomenal. Can't go wrong with a beach that looks like that. Everyday there was a surplus of umbrellas and chairs, we never had a problem finding one. The water is AMAZING! So warm, walk right in and lounge ALL DAY! As we were traveling during COVID, we had to prepare for tests to come back to the US. The resort actually has a building on site for COVID testing. We called the front desk who scheduled us, and we went and got tested, then picked up the results the next morning from the front desk. Was very simple and easy, so don't sweat the COVID swabs! Other than the outrageous costs of food and drinks, we LOVED this resort. We don't really have anything bad to say about it. The resort was clean, quiet, and exquisitely landscaped, as well as the overall weather and beauty of the water and sand. Perfect for couples, or whoever you're traveling with!

25th anniversary vacation was better than expected.

FIITStacy (Phoenix, AZ) on May 22, 2021

My husband and I were celebrating our 25th Anniversary, a few months late, due to COVID. We were waiting for restrictions to ease up and finally decided to just do it and we are so glad we did. We stayed 6 days at OCW in May and had the time of our lives. We rented a car through Scooter Bob's and that worked out perfectly. The car was a little hard to find since the lot was full, but it was definitely an asset during our stay. OCW is a well maintained, beautiful resort on the most perfect stretch of beach. I could never ask for a better beach than this one and we have been to some really nice beaches. We had a studio room with a pool view and it was perfect size and features for us. We were on 2nd floor, there are no elevators so be aware. Our room safe wouldn't work so we called the front desk and the maintenance man was up in less than 5 minutes to have it fixed. Great service. Room had all the amenities we needed. Washer and dryer was a huge benefit and we ended up wearing about only 1/2 our clothes, so don't overpack. The outdoor balcony with the screen was used many times by us for our relaxing and dinner during the rainstorms. Kitchen was equipped with utensils and all the necessary items to make your meals which we ended up cooking over half of our meals at the resort. There was not alot of counter space to prep food so we had to get creative. No condiments of any sort, so you need to buy everything you will be using. The grocery store is very close by. We had heard it is more expensive then the other IGAs due to the "gourmet", but we checked out the other stores and didn't find this as true. Store prices are certainly higher than in the states but that was expected. We paid about $4.50 for a bag of chips, $19 for a cheaper bottle of wine, $11.50 for a 6 pack of local brand beer. What is really costly is the vegetables and the meats. Asparagus was about $7 a pound, $20 a pound for salmon, $52 for most other seafood like grouper. The price of eating in, though, was way cheaper than the extravagant restaurants and due to my being a gluten free eater, it made eating out a challenging problem. We had many meals out on the grill and it was just perfect. The grill is cleaned every night by the "grill ninja". We met him and complimented him as he takes his job seriously. The grills are immaculate! We ate breakfast most days at the restaurant since it came with our room. If you have the complimentary breakfast, you are entitled to one drink and one meal, so you can't order a juice and a coffee so we ended up having juice at the restaurant and coffee in our room. Yes, breakfast takes an hour to get so please be patient. Most importantly, DON'T sit at the tables before they open at 8am or the girl waitress gets very frustrated. Never used the pool but it was warm and clean. Spent more time on the beach and traveling around the island. Spent a day on Middle/North Caicos and that was quite a wonderful day. Ventured to almost all the beaches in the area and our resort's beach was in our top 3 for T&C. No music around the resort, which would have been nice but we had our own speaker and brought it with us to dinner and the beach. The resort is a quiet, laid back place. It was probably 1/2 empty while we were there and we loved it that way. No nightlife at the resort, just peaceful beauty of the beach and pool. If you want quiet and to get away and spend time with a loved one, this place is for you. Mostly couples and older folks. No amenities for children. Use of paddleboards and kayaks was readily available and the crew on the beach were very friendly. Always had towels available. Our room was older and had it's quirks. The refrigerator didn't get cold enough and the freezer sometimes froze and sometimes didn't. We ended up using the fridge for storage of veggies and waterbottles. Freezer was our meats and pop. We made it work. Only other negative about the room was the water pressure. The toilet had a bad flusher that would run causing low pressure in the sinks so we had to keep adjusting it. Plus, if you take a shower, the water needs to warm up 10 min before and don't be surprised it when you are in the shower, it greatly loses pressure due to someone else using water. That was annoying but for the price of the room and all the other good things about it, we didn't think it was too much of a big deal. If you cook in your room, beware that the smoke detectors are sensitive. We had ours go off 2x in our building during our 6 day stay. We did our COVID testing at the resort, 3 days prior to our leaving and had the most wonderful nurse help us with that. It was a great experience and very easy. Check your paperwork though!!!! When we picked up our letters, the following day, my passport number and birthday were wrong on the letter and had to have it retyped up, as we wanted no problems at the airport. The airport was a whole another story but long story short, we arrived 3 hours early and needed it all (on a Thursday). We checked 2 bags, one of which was searched immediately. Our second bag was searched an hour into our wait, which caused us to have to return the the main counter, and my husband was searched as we were boarding the plane. The do MANY random searches and the place is very disorderly. We recommend you bring a powerstrip for your electronics (not many plugs), definitely bring sunscreen (no bites til last day when it was raining then got 25!), don't overpack if you plan on washing clothes, be sure to have your COVID paperwork done and ready including your insurance, rent a car if you plan on doing anything besides sitting at your resort, and be sure to just enjoy your time here without worrying about the small things. We had the best time ever on T&C and will certainly be back.

Laid Back and Relaxing!!

TiffianyMoehring on May 15, 2021

Ocean Club West is easy, comfortable and relaxing. The staff were fantastic and the vibe is definitely laid back. Free access to bicycles, paddle boards and kayaks was extra awesome. And the beach was picture perfect. Great place for families. Our room was very spacious and well equipped. The decor was a bit outdated and the bed was adequate. But the hotel staff, location and price made up for the room. And by most standards the room is good - had I not read a few other reviews I may have not even noticed outdated room decor. And we spent as much time as we could outside at the beach! I would definitely go back.

Ideal Resort on Grace Bay

megan845 (Atlanta, Georgia) on May 12, 2021

Ocean Club West is an absolutely ideal location on Grace Bay, walking distance to restaurants, shops and the grocery store. The staff is beyond friendly- Needia at breakfast, Dr Watson with the rum punch, and all the guys at the water sports desk and beach bar. Our room was even nicer than we expected from the photos. We enjoyed having a kitchen, washer/dryer and our own screened in porch. All of the resorts are rebounding from their entire industry being shut down. Your breakfast won’t come out 5 minutes after you order it, but kick your feet up and take in the view, try to remember how to relax.

‘Disappointing’ is a euphemism

BrownBriton on May 08, 2021

We stayed here for our final night in Provo - and really wish we hadn’t. The resort is nicely located on Grace Bay, with a restaurant almost on the beach and a lovely pool area...but I’m afraid these are the only positives I can relay. The rooms are located in a number of smaller buildings dotted around the pool but they don’t have lifts (travel light if you’re on anything above Ground Floor) and are tired, dated and lacking in any style. If you’re a 1980s enthusiast, the rooms will be a real blast from the past. I suppose the fact that the door to the room opened outwards was something of a hint as to what awaited us inside. The bathroom was particularly dismal and spirits were only lifted by the l’Occitane toiletries (the highlight of the stay!). However, the biggest horror was the water heater in one of the cupboards, which sprang into noisy action periodically during the night. A morning swim at 0800 to lighten the mood was made difficult by towels not being available, nor was tea at breakfast. There are (close) neighbouring properties offering a much higher standard than this.
