First off I will say from the front desk, to the restaurant, to the bars, to the housekeepers, to the entertainment the staff is by far the best. They went above and beyond for us and I appreciate it, as they are the reason the vacation was salvageable. But here we go.... Hotel it self extremely run down and needs tons of up grades, from elevators not working to zero fans in the lobby where you just sit and sweat to cracks in every tile around and so on ... Bars... very limited alcohol choice, no piña colada makers, no wine at the lobby bar, no coke, no lemonade..basically beer and rum. As a wine drinker very disappointing. Food.... just bring your own PERIOD! or head to Dino's pizza across the road and pay $10 Pool... nice except we were there with ALOT of Cuban tourists who kinda took over, which is fine they can have a vacation , but we're very pushy All in all I'll never be back...

What a place arrived in the evening, helpful friendly young female receptionist, room ok basic 3 star, but clean. Food on buffet was not replenished when i was there and very limited with warm runny"ice" cream also offerred. No cutlery on tables, food on floor etc. no drinks service, warm eating area, queue for some bbq chicken but long wait and given virtually no food - really terrible - just thrown on plate. If you were black you got extra meat. saw this is action on at least 2 occasions, so beware. bar service long queue , to be served warm watered down beer in plastic cup tasted like lemonade so just poured it in plants outside. Eating area had view of empty swimming pool!! they had 1 other pool with water in. Had water bottle in room , lot of communal areas sticky and had odd whiff of sick thrown in. Really unpleasant place not far from the beach (Melia las Antillas, all inclusive, just up the road, cost approx $10 more a night and there was no comparison) This place was generally no service, terrible food quality,terrible hygiene , terrible food selection, and terrible drinks from the few I experienced. You must be pretty desperate to go here to relax and try and have fun(doubt this is possible here judging by all the miserable faces I saw!!! and my personal experience although brief you get a good feel) cheap and nasty ... even by Cuban standards

This past February my daughter and I stayed at Palma real,, because we have been loyal customers, we were invited for a special Valentine dinner at Barcelo, how lovely was this.The resort is beautiful and right on the water, I would like to try staying there next time, market right across the street and in walking range to the downtown.

My room was great recently painted new bed and mattress, toilet as well good hot water pressure. My maid was great and did a fantastic job, as well I was close enough to the pool and pool bar in which I got great service and cold drinks and the pool was cleaned consistently as well a great show by the cuban entertainment team. Front desk service was nice and polite and treated me very well. As well my safe for my room locked with no problems. I have been to this resort many times and have seen many positive changes happening. Lobby bar was nice and clean. I did not eat much at the resort but when I did the food was good.

What a lovely place! We only booked for one night as we were moving around Varadero but were very happy with our choice. Although the rooms are a little dated we had a great afternoon and evening. The staff in all areas of this hotel are friendly and welcoming. Although not a beach hotel it's only a few minutes walk through Arenas Blancas Hotel to the beautiful beach.
