I stayed at the Level section of the resort with my best friend for 1 week, and we had an amazing time. Our bungalow suite was spacious and very clean. The whole property is lovely. We had access to 2 private pools as well as the regular pools and a private section of the beach. The beach was like something out of a movie - white sand and clear, turquoise water.
Cuba is not known for having great food at the resorts, and Cuba is definitely suffering from shortages right now. That said, the buffet had plenty of options for both vegetarians and meat-eaters. This included many fish, poultry and meat options cooked to order on a grill at both lunch and dinner. There was a large salad bar, many cooked vegetable, bean and rice options, and “American” options, like pizza and pasta. You will not starve! The Limoncello restaurant was available for Level room guests at breakfast and lunch with beautiful tables overlooking the ocean where we had breakfast each morning. In our opinion, the buffet was better than the a la carte restaurants. The a la carte places basically had the same food as the buffet, but much more limited options. There was also food available at the golf club cafe and pool bar - grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, beef and chicken burgers, hot dogs and fries.
Service was excellent. The people working at the Level Concierge office were especially helpful with getting my friend’s wifi to work (thanks, Frank!) and helping set up a classic car trip to Matanzas (thanks, Laura!).
Speaking of wifi - it is available, but we were constantly getting kicked off and having to log in again with a lengthy ID and password. It was nice to disconnect, but just a head’s up.
Lastly, be sure to bring your essential items, especially toiletries like feminine products and sunscreen. These were nowhere to be found, including at the hotel gift shop or the Plaza Americas shopping mall near the hotel. We had brought all items in our carry on bags, but be aware you will not find items to purchase. The grocery store we went to for snacks was half empty and no food other than canned beans.
We brought US dollars for tipping. We did not need to change money into pesos, and in fact, were advised not to. Most places take credit cards (charged in US dollars) or any foreign currency (Canadian dollars, Euros).
Had an amazing vacation!

We got back today from Melia Las Americas in Varadero.. we had an amazing time, the food was plentiful, lots of choices.. beach are is clean and beautiful. The hotel is well maintained and the workers work so hard to keep everything beautiful and sparkling. Staff at this resort are friendly, hardworking and treated us so well … Names to mention at the Lobby bar Raul, Rossana, Yoalkis .. made and served our drinks with a smile and we had so much fun with them …
The entertainment group on the beach were wonderful and always had fun things to do and we had plenty of laughs with all of them .. names to mention Elsy ( who recognized us from another resort we visited years ago) Ankis who everyday greeted us with a smile. Lizo DJ who played great music on the beach everyday…
Then Isis who worked in customer relations was absolutely wonderful and helped with any questions or concerns…
Don’t forget tip money and hygiene, medicine to give away if you can they appreciate all of it!
MLA the best

Have gone to MLA since 2010 and it has and will remain our preferred destination. Resort is perfect for needs and close proximity to the golf course makes it ideal. Resort is great but the addition of the Level services makes it even better. The Level staff make you feel at home
100%, I will be back!! LOVED this resort!

Just an AMAZING vacation!!! 10/10
The resort was beautiful, the beach is INCREDIBLE; the food was actually fresh & delicious; it was just a 3 minute walk to the Varadero Golf Club.
The resort staff were so attentive and hospitable. Always smiling and always greeting us, even if they were busy. Honestly, not one meal was bad! I have been to Cuba before and the food wasn't the best but this resort was different! I enjoyed every meal!
HUGE shout outs to David & Luis in the Level Office. They went above and beyond to make sure that we had an amazing time. Luis sent me a bottle of champagne to my room for my birthday and David booked all of our dinners (without us asking); and even set us up with his friend, Anna for a day trip to Havana in a '56 Chevy! David is truly an asset to this resort!
Shout out to Jorgito at the Level swim-up bar for always having a great suggestion for cocktails and always pairing the drink with a smile and great conversation!
Honestly, we had a great time and the staff just made it that much more special! I swear that I have found my resort in Varadero! I will 100% be returning to Cuba and there is no other resort that I would even consider! Thank you so much for your hospitality and I hope to see you all again soon! Vinny & Chloe
Lovely hotel BUT….
(Diseworth, United Kingdom)
Jan 29, 2023
After a 10 hour flight our room was not the best.
We requested a move and were placed in a 4th floor room which was perfect.
The hotel the beach the sea the weather were just great.
BUT when you travel with TUI you would expect that we would have been advised that due to embargo’s food choice was limited.
This affected the hotels ability to provide the variety of food one would expect for a 2 week fully inclusive trip.
Breakfast was average at best with watered down coffee every day and on the last 2 days what appeared to be powdered milk.
Basics like jam and marmalade never made an appearance for 2 weeks.
Mushrooms appeared once only.
Lunch and dinner were always the same.
Fresh Tomatoes for example were every other day at best.
I know this sounds picky but when you have paid thousands of pounds we feel we should have been made aware.
So we decided to book the speciality restaurants for a change.
La Roblenza Cuban bbq 1/10 awful food .went there 3 times hoping for better but it never happened
Arcara a lovely restaurant but my wife’s beef was too tough to eat
BUT second visit was an improvement.
Sakura Japanese not bad but very theatrical.
Many of our Co guests felt the same about the food.
It’s such a shame as the staff throughout the hotel were superb from chambermaids to reception .
TUI rep was so helpful.
We did The jeep safari -recommended , Havana overnight which you have to arrange yourself and a your at 10.00 am every morning led by Elsey which was around the awesome Xanadu Hotel next to the golf club.
A great hour.
The catamaran to the local coral is a must for snorkelling.
So a mixed review but I guess we won’t be back.
