Tired, 30 years out of date and I feel sorry for the amazing staff who have to front this hotel as they keep it going

chriswN9218RK (Stanley, United Kingdom) on Aug 06, 2022

Upon arrival we were positive. The staff were so helpful and friendly upon arrival and the reception to the hotel is so clean we had no need to fear. As we had two rooms with the kids we were taken to the two story suites which we thought was positive as plenty of space and a separate living area. Looks dated as you enter and felt very warm but spacious. Upstairs two bedrooms, separate key card locks on each. Ours needed to be reset by an engineer 3 times in 1.5 days. The rooms and bathrooms are so dated and things such as toilet seats, shower curtains are dirty and Baths which you shower in look like haven’t been cleaned properly in 20 years. The original air con system fitted into the rooms doesn’t work ( or at least ours didn’t) and in our kids room they had a new air con unit fitted I think for this reason. The one in our bedroom was useless and just pumped the same temperature air around but with a smell like old cigarettes. We had ants in the bathroom which having just come from old Havana and Trinidad can happen anywhere but given the window to the bathroom didn’t even shut it wouldn’t have been hard for them to find a way in. Everything looked dated, worn and dirty. I don’t mean dirt that can be cleaned it’s ground in over years and nothing the hotel staff can do. Iberostar as a brand have slipped with this hotel and the worst I’ve ever been in. Even the grounds look tired, the tennis courts look like haven’t been touched in 10 years. The pool was disgusting, you couldn’t see the bottom of it, there had been rain a few days before so I know this can mess up how the pool looks but it was green and full of cups and litter. 90-% of the guests here were Russian, stubbing cigs out at the side of the pool and stuff and I just think how the treated the hotel explains why it looked like it did. The food was decent taste wise but only 1 main restaurant but as we jumped town after 1 meal this wasn’t a problem for us. The beach area here was stunning though, no rocks and sand amazingly clean. ( apart from Russian guests leaving plastic cups everywhere) and actually a Better beach than the Melia we moved to. The staff tried to help but they can only work with what they have, not their fault in the slightest and we were due to stay here for 9 nights, we moved out after 1, managed to get a deal down the road which cost another £1200 for 8 nights with the help of our agency Cuba Direct and booked in elsewhere. I’d not recommend this hotel to anyone travelling all that way as you would be massively disappointed if had to stay here for a few days

Avoid this place at all cost

888chanteld (World) on Jul 31, 2022

We have been to this hotel 5 times, this time being the 6th. Upon arrival during check in we were given our room key and taken to our room. There were bugs on the bed and a lizard in the room. We had 2 separate beds, an empty mini fridge, a broken toilet, a light that barely lit the bathroom and a view facing a dumpster. We did not receive a safe key, towel cards or wifi log ins. This hotel is EXTREMELY outdated and needs major renovations. It has gone downhill from the last time we visited. The resort is full of locals and you are not acknowledged in the buffet unless you are Cuban. We sat down for 2 meals and no one offered us a drink or took our dirty plates. The restaurant is extremely hot as well as the lobby. There is no AC besides the rooms. There is also no bottles water anywhere. We didn’t even want to sleep the night it was so bad. The next morning we immediately contacted our travel representative and left the resort to another hotel. This only plus about this resort is the beach.
