We arrived July 22nd 2022, from Calgary Canada, although we were expecting a somewhat rustic experience we weren't prepared for just how awful this place was. We were given rooms on the third floor, just disgusting I can't describe in words how terrible and unhealthy these rooms were, we had a thick film of mold on our AC vents, don't be fooled like us by these 5 out of 5 reviews, in over 35 years of travelling this was the first time we asked to be moved as in resorts.
The pleasant lady on the reception desk offered us rooms on the 6th floor apparently their best rooms, which admittedly were much cleaner, we met our WestJet rep and went over our options, in the rooms we now had I'd still rate them at a 2 star level. We decided the week was now doable in this level of room, after all we were there for the beach. In these now best rooms, our water was shut off twice, the toilet rocked side to side when you sat on it to use it, I had "clean towels" with obvious stains left on them, at best this place is a low end budget motel.
The food was the same every single day chicken or pork and one pasta station, the food wasn't great but we knew that going, we were offered three specialty meals, I almost peed myself when the young server asked how I liked my steak, the resort's idea of steak is a Sunday roast sliced up into small pieces and served with a gravy, it wasn't steak.
The two bars, pool bar by far the busiest, and beach bar, the big guy who worked the beach bar was real genuine happy to see you fellow, the pool bar staff not so much, what you need to know is this place is packed and I mean packed with locals who camp out at the pool and the only bar, the night time bar staff two fellas one called Ricardo pleasent enough his co-worker not at all, the bar has only one beer tap which is constantly filling big bubba's mugs the locals had the biggest I'd seen it took a while to get a beer, and they will intentionally serve locals before you fyi. They ran out of beer one night, and each day they seemed to have another "technical problem"
If you do take a chance on this place, when you walk into the main reception area you will get that oh oh dread in your stomach when you see the worn out sagging stained patio furniture, that's your first clue. The place is a family resort at best 1.5 I'd definitely shop around, we won't ever go back, there is some much nicer resorts either side of this resort.
If you are travelling to Cuba one thing you need to know, the Cuban Peso is called "old money" what will happen is everyone will offer you pesos for your Canadian or US dollar or Euros, we changed our Canadian for pesos and found 90 percent of the big stores wouldn't take pesos they wanted one the big three mentioned. I will say though that the locals will accept the pesos as a tip but not for buying product. So keep your own country currency it's like gold in Cuba.
I had confirmed all of bad reviews are 100% accurate.

Worst hotel ever. But this is the experience that I must believe previous travellers reviews. first check in was 1:00am. They take us beach front " casa" room like bangalow. " OH MY GOD! I can't stay here 7 days." plus not hot water.. went right back receptions to change room. They said " that rooms you booked for I can't change". I had to beg for up grade room with $$. (even no hot water). I have to paid and upgrade. Then 2nd room was inside of building. Again NO HOT WATER. 3rd room was 1503 with warm water. Depature day, we requested late check out . $40 CDN until 9 pm but had to move other room with wheel chairs room. Actually I didn't figure out how to use toilet. No toilet cover just big toilet... Anyway, I wont come back again. Food is same thing every day. after 10pm no food available.
