Restoration of transatlantic flights from Halifax brings needed connectivity to Atlantic Gateway as busy spring and summer travel season gets underway

Sunday’s departures to Dublin and London from Halifax Stanfield International Airport mark first WestJet flights from Nova Scotia to Europe since October of 2019

For the first time since October of 2019, WestJet flights between Nova Scotia and Europe are taking flight as the airline restarts international service to Dublin and London from Halifax on Sunday, May 1. As WestJet continues to strengthen transatlantic connectivity from the Atlantic Gateway, the airline will also resume service to Glasgow on Monday, May 2 and Paris on Saturday, May 7.

“This is another important milestone in recovery as we restore connectivity between Nova Scotia and four great European destinations this week,” said John Weatherill, Chief Commercial Officer, WestJet. “The past two and half years have been incredibly challenging on these communities and these investments are critical to Atlantic Canada and the greater travel and tourism industry’s recovery.  We’re looking forward to reconnecting our guests with the places and people they love the most and appreciate their continued support as we work to restore our network to pre-pandemic levels.”

“We’re thrilled to see WestJet’s non-stop connections between Halifax Stanfield and Europe restart this week as we work together to accelerate our community’s economic recovery,” said Joyce Carter, President & CEO, Halifax International Airport Authority. “Air connections are vital for the growth of regional tourism, trade, and immigration, and we appreciate WestJet’s commitment to our region and investment in these routes as we put Nova Scotia back on the map after two years of very little air travel activity. At Halifax Stanfield, we’re ready to help travellers on their journey and once again, connect Nova Scotia to the world.”

As WestJet continues to restore service to strengthen the Atlantic Gateway, the airline’s summer schedule will see flights to Nova Scotia reach 89 per cent of pre-pandemic service levels. WestJet’s investments in Atlantic Canada will also see the airline enhance interprovincial connectivity and increase service levels across Atlantic Canada this summer
