WestJet has been a proud active search partner and supporter of the Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) for the past 18 years. The airline has provided more than 2,600 flights to support investigations and family reunifications as well as 730 gifts of flight, used for fundraising opportunities.
“The heart of our partnership is about so much more than just providing flights. It’s about using our network, our people and our voice to help raise awareness and bring hope to those who need it most," said Tory Khalil, Zone Manager, WestJet and long-time MCSC volunteer.
Earlier this year, WestJet sat down with a retired MCSC investigator to understand how far the airline’s impact is felt. Ted’s story about reuniting a mother and son more than 30 years later can be watched here:
Many missing children’s cases, including runaways, youth in care or those missing under unclear circumstances do not meet the strict criteria for an AMBER Alert. Data from across Canada indicated that in 2024, police received 32,680 reports of missing children which was inclusive of 24 cases of abduction by a stranger and only eight AMBER Alerts. For those that wish to join WestJet and thousands of other Canadians as an active search partner, MCSC has developed MCSC Rescu, a progressive web app that is free to sign up for. Signing up for MCSC Rescu allows users to:
- View active cases nationwide
- Receive real-time SMS alerts for missing children in their area Submit anonymous tips directly to investigators.
