Winnipeg Airports Authority unveils AirLink Business Park as WestJet announces intentions for new Winnipeg hangar

The project remains subject to finalization and WestJet Board approval and satisfaction of applicable regulatory and permitting requirements. This investment further strengthens WAA’s longstanding partnership with WestJet and demonstrates a shared commitment to Manitoba through enhanced connectivity and long-term economic growth.

"Our intentions for a new hangar reflect WestJet’s long-term commitment to Winnipeg, our people, and the future of aviation in Western Canada,” said Alexis von Hoensbroech, Chief Executive Officer of WestJet Group.

“A purpose-built facility will provide the dedicated maintenance infrastructure needed to support the continued growth of our fleet and Winnipeg operation, bring more aircraft to the city and create highly skilled jobs, strengthening the resilience and efficiency of our network while reinforcing Winnipeg’s increasingly important role in WestJet’s future.”

The intended purpose-built hangar is expected to have slots for two aircraft and is being designed to accommodate the Boeing 737 MAX-10 aircraft, which WestJet is anticipated to be the global launch customer for.  The hangar is targeted for completion in late 2028. Once operational, it is expected to support the basing of up to 42 narrow-body aircraft at YWG airport and support hundreds of new jobs.

It was announced in February that WAA received a $10-million investment from the Government of Canada and a $5-million investment from the Province of Manitoba to bolster WAA’s $17-million investment in the first phase of this development.
