In recognition of Women in Aviation Week and International Women’s Day, teams across WestJet and Sunwing are highlighting the many ways women contribute to safe and successful operations in the air, on the ground, and behind the scenes. This year’s theme, Above and Beyond, reflects how WestJetters support progress across the industry from lifting each other up and mentoring future leaders, to fostering a positive workplace culture and prioritizing safety while caring for colleagues and guests. Representation plays a critical role in inspiring the next generation of talent, and women across WestJet help open doors for more young women to pursue careers in aviation. As part of the celebrations, WestJet and Sunwing operated eight flights crewed entirely by women , on International Women’s Day, showcasing the skill, professionalism, and leadership of teams across the organization. WestJet teams are also engaging with students and future aviation professionals through events at post-secondary institutions, offering insight into career paths and connecting students directly with industry professionals. Employees are encouraged to recognize women making an impact through programs such as the Northern Lights Aero Foundation “Elsie” Awards , celebrating Canadian women who contribute to aviation while paving the way for others.
