June 12, 2026 update WestJet continues to navigate the challenge of elevated fuel prices and associated cost pressures. WestJet remains committed to clearly communicating decisions and status of the situation to ensure guests are informed. As part of this approach, WestJet has implemented planned capacity adjustments, including an approximate four per cent reduction in flying in September and a less than three per cent reduction in October. These updates better align capacity with demand, while maintaining operational reliability. Changes will go into effect on June 14, and guests facing travel changes will be provided with alternate flight options. May 15, 2026 update Global supply challenges continue to influence fuel pricing, and WestJet remains focused on balancing these cost pressures, while managing near- and longer-term impacts. The airline remains focused on mitigating these pressures through disciplined cost management, fuel efficiency procedures and network optimization. Measures to reduce fuel consumption, include: Required Navigation Performance (RNP). This is when an aircraft positions to land on or take off from an airport runway by flying an arc on approach or departure, rather than making 90-degree turns. By rounding the “corners” of the flight path, Air Traffic Control maintains oversight of the aircraft’s movement, while overall distance, flying time and fuel consumption decrease; Taxiing on the ground using a single engine versus two, if conditions permit and when safe to do so; and increased use of more efficient ground power and ground air units while parked at serviceable airport bridges, reducing the use of the Aircraft Power Unit. In addition to procedural efforts, WestJet has made additional updates to its network by consolidating flights on lower demand routes and adjusting travel periods for seasonal offerings throughout the summer. This includes reducing flying by approximately three per cent in July and August, these changes will go into effect on May 17, and impacted guests will be provided with alternate flight options, often within the same day. WestJet is sincerely grateful to its guests during these challenging cost pressures and remains focused on providing friendly and reliable air travel. April 20, 2026 update WestJet’s response to fuel supply As the aviation industry responds to ongoing supply chain challenges due to strained access in the Strait of Hormuz, WestJet is implementing near-term measures. The airline has not made schedule changes due to recent news of fuel availability at this time; however, it is evaluating its summer schedule and may adjust flying to balance fuel supply. WestJet is in regular communication with fuel suppliers and monitoring the global fuel situation closely. WestJet’s current actions in response to fuel cost As fuel prices continue to rise, WestJet has adjusted some flying to align with demand and best manage associated fuel costs. This includes consolidating flights on lower demand routes and adjusting the travel period for seasonal offerings. WestJet reduced capacity by approximately one per cent in April, three per cent in May and five and a half per cent in June. Guests impacted by these changes are provided with reaccommodation options, most within the same day as their original departure. WestJet appreciates guests’ understanding as it navigates these unprecedented and evolving supply chain pressures; the airline remains committed to providing exceptional travel experiences. April 7, 2026 update The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has strained global oil supplies and led to a spike in the price of oil and a larger increase in the price of jet fuel, which typically accounts for approximately 20 per cent of an airline’s costs. Due to the continued increase in fuel costs, the WestJet Group is implementing near-term measures, including a temporary fuel surcharge on WestJet Rewards Companion Vouchers, a fuel surcharge on Sunwing Vacations and Vacances WestJet Québec vacation packages and consolidating flights on lower demand routes. Companion voucher surcharge details Beginning April 8, WestJet will introduce a temporary fuel surcharge of $60 on all bookings made with a WestJet Rewards companion voucher. This will be reflected in the “Other ATC” portion of companion voucher bookings, and we will continue to assess the surcharge and adjust as conditions allow. Fuel is the largest contributor to airline operating costs, and a temporary surcharge helps us manage the recent surge in fuel prices. While airfares can be adjusted and have greater flexibility in pricing, the nature of our companion vouchers does not allow for this same flexibility. Sunwing Vacations and Vacances WestJet Québec surcharge details A fuel surcharge of $50 per person will apply to all bookings made as of April 14 (existing travellers/bookings will not be affected). This surcharge will be included within the regular taxes and fees at the time of booking and is applicable to all Sunwing and Vacances WestJet Québec bookings. WestJet airfares and WestJet Vacations packages reflect current operating costs and will continue to fluctuate based on market supply and demand. We appreciate our guests’ understanding as we navigate these unprecedented cost pressures and remain committed to providing exceptional travel experiences to our guests.
