Beginning today, student members of the Urban Pilots & Professionals Network (UPN) are invited to apply for two new aviation scholarships supported by WestJet. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing commercial pilot training, and a second $1,000 scholarship will support a student pursuing education or training in aircraft maintenance or aerospace engineering. “WestJet is proud to support UPN’s work by supporting students on the pathway to a career in aviation,” said Jackie Ross, WestJet Vice-President, People. “Canada’s aviation industry faces growing demand for these professions, and these scholarships reflect a broader conversation on how industry can support talent development.” “The Urban Pilots & Professionals Network (UPN), is very excited to be starting a partnership with WestJet. It is through relationships with organizations like WestJet that allow us to extend our reach and accelerate our progress, with the ultimate goal of increasing diversity in aviation. We are encouraged by the enthusiasm that WestJet has shown towards this new partnership, and we are excited about this collaborative initiative through this scholarship so the impact of this relationship can be felt immediately in the community” Eligibility and selection Qualified applicants must be students and active members of UPN. Scholarship recipients will be selected by a UPN committee based on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and alignment with WestJet’s core values. Applications close April 1, 2026. WestJet and UPN sign first letter of agreement The scholarship launch builds on a letter of agreement signed earlier this year between WestJet and the UPN, which will allow the non-profit to expand their mission in Western Canada. For more than 20 years, UPN has worked to bridge the gap between urban communities and the aviation industry through mentorship, training and youth career development, including summer camps, in‑school seminars and youth aviation tours. Over the next year, WestJet will work closely to support these initiatives through access to WestJet facilities and aviation professionals.
