In conjunction with advisories issued by Transport Canada and the Federal Aviation Administration (U.S.A.) regarding the recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices, guests travelling with the Samsung Note 7 should:

  • not place the mobile device in their checked baggage.
  • keep the mobile device on their person or in their carry-on baggage.
  • keep the mobile device turned off and not charging at any time while on board the aircraft

In addition to other countries reporting mosquito-born Zika virus, the Government of Canada has recently updated a Travel Health Notice to include the state of Florida.

WestJet recognizes that some guests who are pregnant or may become pregnant may wish to adjust their existing travel plans to Florida.

Departure dates:

This flexible change and cancellation promise applies to existing bookings only - made on or before August 3, 2016 - travelling to Florida between August 3, 2016 and April 30, 2017.

For air-only bookings made with WestJet:

WestJet is temporarily waiving the change and cancellation fee for air-only bookings to Florida. You may:

  • Change your destination – just pay any difference in fare. If your new itinerary costs less, we'll give you a travel bank credit for the difference. Changes must be made more than two hours before departure.
  • Cancel your reservation – we'll transfer the full amount paid into a travel bank credit valid for one year. Cancellations must be made more than two hours before departure.


Please call WestJet at 1-888-WESTJET (1-888-937-8538) to complete these changes.

Guests who have made air-only package bookings through a travel agent should contact their travel agent directly.

For WestJet Vacations bookings made with WestJet Vacations:

WestJet Vacations is temporarily narrowing the change and cancellation promise for guests travelling to Florida. You may:

  • Change your destination – guests will pay the difference in package price. If your new package costs less, the difference will be given to you as WestJet dollars (valid for one year). Changes must be made more than seven days before departure; some restrictions apply.
  • Cancel your reservation – we'll transfer the value of your Vacations package into WestJet dollars (valid for one year). Cancellations must be made more than seven days before departure; some restrictions apply.

There is no need for you to call to receive a waiver code for your client, simply add this generic waiver code *ZKFL1608* in the endorsement field and process the exchange or refund in your GDS.

TA Web Bookings
For your clients that are impacted and wish to either cancel, exchange or refund their ticket without penalty you will need to contact the Travel Support Team at 1-877-664-3205.

WestJet Vacation Bookings

Canada has introduced a new entry requirement, known as an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). If you are a foreign traveller who used to travel to Canada without a visa, you are now expected to apply online for an eTA prior to travelling to Canada by air. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and any travellers who currently hold a valid visa.

The application process is affordable, doesn’t take long to complete, and in most cases the eTA will be granted within minutes of applying. Until the end of September 2016, if you require, but do not have an eTA, you will still be able to board a flight to Canada as long as you are holding valid travel documents, such as a passport. If you're flying out of a U.S. airport, from now until the end of the summer, we strongly encourage you to arrive at the airport a minimum of two hours prior to your scheduled departure, to ensure that you do not miss your flight. Due to a higher than expected volume of guests travelling, and current U.S. Transportation Security Agency (TSA) staffing, excessive security wait times are expected.

Please be advised that extensive road construction in the area is causing major delays for guests getting to and from New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). We strongly recommend that you arrive at least two hours prior to your scheduled departure time. Also, please note that parking will be very limited during this period, and some roads may be closed and/or detoured. Please visit LaGuardia Airport for more information.

If you're flying out of Deer Lake Regional Airport, from now until the end of the summer, we strongly encourage you to arrive at the airport a minimum of two and a half hours prior to your scheduled departure, to ensure that you do not miss your flight. Due to a higher than expected volume of guests travelling, there has been an increase in security wait times.

If you're flying out of Comox Valley Airport, from now until the end of the summer, we strongly encourage you to arrive at the airport a minimum of two hours prior to your scheduled departure, to ensure that you do not miss your flight. Due to a higher than expected volume of guests travelling, there has been an increase in security wait times.

We kindly ask that any guest allergic to nuts or peanuts, nut products or tree nuts, self identifies at the time of booking, at check-in and notifies inflight crew upon boarding any of our aircraft. WestJet cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment. Currently, some of our food service providers for our 767 aircraft process food in a facility that also processes nuts or peanuts, nut products or tree nuts.

Please note, WestJet will be moving to Terminal 3 from Terminal 2 at the Cancun International Airport. This transition should not impact your travel day. Our new location in terminal 3 is only a few minutes' walk from terminal 2. Check-in counters are located on the ground floor, with departure gates on the second floor. Terminal 3 also gives WestJet guests access to 70 self-serve kiosks.

You must have valid (not expired) identification to take any flight within Canada. Adhering to the Secure Air Travel Regulations, WestJet will not allow you to fly if you do not have proper, valid ID. In addition, the name on your identification must match the name on your airline reservation or boarding pass. If your client needs to change their flight as the result of a WestJet travel advisory:

  • Enter "TRVL ADV DDMMMYY"** into the endorsement field if completing an exchange. No waiver code is required.
    • The penalties, restrictions and fare difference applicable are determined by the specific travel advisory.
    • Unless otherwise specified in the travel advisory, if no penalties or fare difference apply, travel must be completed within seven days of the travel advisory date.
    • **DDMMMYY is the travel date your client was impacted on**
  • If the ticket remains open for future use and the exchange is completed outside the travel advisory specified date range, regular fees will apply.

Please be advised that due to safety concerns; hoverboards, powerboards, airwheels and other self-balancing lithium battery powered scooters are forbidden from transport on any WestJet or WestJet Encore flight, in carry-on, checked baggage or cargo. The safety and comfort of our guests is a top priority and this rule will stand until further notice.

Please allow extra time when departing from Victoria International Airport, as its baggage screening system undergoes improvements. A temporary handling facility has been established at the east end of the terminal building where guests can drop off their tagged baggage. We encourage you to arrive with enough time to drop off your bags, as flights will depart at their regularly scheduled times. Be on the lookout for fraudsters posing as legitimate WestJet representatives. If you feel that you have been the target of suspicious activity, please contact the RCMP Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501, or visit their website.

Email (phishing) and telephone scams are common methods used by criminals to lure people into disclosing personal information such as credit card numbers and account information. These scams intentionally impersonate trusted brands to leverage goodwill and avoid suspicion. They appear to be authentic and may go so far as to use logos and official sounding email addresses.

Phishing is the practice of sending phony email messages to trick recipients into sharing sensitive information. These scams often ask for personal information such as usernames, passwords and email addresses — WestJet will never ask you to share any of this information through an email. Phishing scams may also make a false claim that your account is in urgent need of attention. This sense of urgency drives the recipient to click a link to an authentic looking website which is actually a spoof site used to gather credit card information and account details. Avoid clicking on any attachments to these emails as they may contain viruses or spyware.

Key indicators of a phony email are:

  • a false claim that a prize or flight has been awarded;
  • a false claim that there is a problem with the recipients account that needs "fixing";
  • the existence of typos or poor grammar, spellings such as "Westjet" instead of "WestJet";
  • the sender's email address and any links in the document may appear authentic;
  • other authentic looking material such as logos or company colours.

Several fake WestJet Instagram accounts have recently been set up and are promising free flights or vacations to the first 25,000 followers. This common Instagram scam technique allows an individual to build a large following with the intention of selling the account. Although the fake account names are similar to ours and some use our logo, they are not associated with WestJet.

We recommend guests do not follow these accounts and avoid sharing them on Instagram. The official WestJet Instagram account is called "WestJet" and can be found at http://instagram.com/westjet.

Internet marketers are falsely claiming to represent WestJet Airlines Limited using an online survey and Facebook sharing. The scam offers free tickets in exchange for answering a questionnaire and then sharing the survey with friends on Facebook. We are always happy to hear how your experience with us was, and ask you not to share this scam to your own Facebook profile. For more information, please see our blog post.

Telephone scammers are impersonating WestJet in an attempt to steal your personal information. WestJet does not use telemarketers or share guests' personal information. If you receive a call indicating that you've won "WestJet points/miles" or are a "preferred customer" please hang up. Visit http://www.antifraudcentre.ca/ for more info on this and other types of scams.

Automated phone recordings are used to target a large range of phone numbers including private unlisted numbers and office extensions. These calls will often state that you are a valued guest and are eligible for a prize, attempting to claim the prize will put you in contact with a live operator. This operator may attempt to gain access to your personal information such as credit card numbers or account details and may become quite persistent. WestJet DOES NOT participate in any form of phone promotion or solicitation.

Numerous guests attempting to reach WestJet by phone have found themselves in the ‘Misdial Trap’ – a scheme used by fraudsters and telemarketing companies to profit from misdial traffic.

There are many active toll-free numbers created intentionally close to WestJet phone numbers in an attempt to catch guests who misdial to harvest their personal information and credit card details. This marketing strategy relies on clumsy dialing and high-pressure tactics. These types of scams are rapidly increasing. Please dial carefully and remember, the toll free phone number for WestJet is 1-888- WESTJET.

As a Canadian registered air carrier, WestJet is required by several countries to spray insecticide in the flight deck and guest cabin prior to traveling to those countries. This is a preventative measure against the importation of foreign insects that may carry disease or damage crops.

WestJet uses Permethrin #216, an insecticide approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) for application onboard commercial aircraft. According to the WHO, short-term exposure when spraying this insecticide has not been found to cause any adverse health effects.
