If your flight was affected by the labour disruption
If your flight was disrupted due to the recent WestJet labour disruption, you may be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable and necessary expenses you incurred while you were away from home, including:
- Accommodation, up to $250 CAD per night, per reservation including taxes and fees
- Meals
- Ground transportation between your accommodation and the airport
EC261 and UK261 continue to apply to departures from EU and UK respectively. European flight and service disruptions.
If your flight was not affected by the labour disruption
If your flight is delayed or cancelled for reasons within WestJet's control, including safety-related disruptions, you may be eligible for reimbursement in certain situations.
You may be entitled to food and drinks in reasonable quantities if:
- You received less than 12 hours' notice of the disruption; and
- Your departure was delayed by more than two hours.
If a flight cancellation requires an overnight stay, you may also be entitled to:
- Hotel or comparable accommodation within a reasonable distance of the airport
- Transportation between the airport and your accommodation
Eligibility depends on the circumstances of your disruption and applicable legislation.
Submitting a reimbursement request
If you paid for eligible expenses out of pocket, you can submit a reimbursement request.
To help us review your request, please:
- Keep all itemized receipts
- Include receipts with your submission
- Ensure all booking details match your itinerary
For out-of-pocket expenses related to a delayed or damaged baggage incident within our control, please visit submit expenses for lost, delayed, or damaged baggage.
Please ensure the information entered matches your booking exactly, including:
Six-character WestJet reservation code
First and last name as shown on your itinerary or boarding pass
Date of birth
If you'd like a copy for your records, we recommend taking a screenshot before submitting your claim. Once submitted, your claim cannot be retrieved.
We'll review your request and respond within 30 days.
If your claim is approved, we'll contact you using the email address provided with instructions on how to receive your reimbursement electronically.
If you're submitting a claim on behalf of a guest, all information must belong to the travelling guest. Any approved reimbursement will be issued directly to the travelling guest.
