Afraid to eat in the main dining room.

My husband and I recently spent 4 nights at the Club Barbados Resort & Spa and for the most part we were very disappointed with our overall experience from the time we checked in until we left. The customer service is lacking, the resort is outdated, the beds are hard and there is no beach. Upon arrival we were greeted with a cocktail and a smile, which was nice after traveling. At check-in the reception was not quite as welcoming. We were greeted, checked in and told they had made a reservation for us for dinner, yet we felt a little as if we weren't welcome. We were then taken to our room which was nice, but out dated. We changed and headed to dinner. We went to the bar and had a beverage prior to dinner. Everyone at the bar was awesome. They were super friendly, pleasant and entertaining. Everything changed at dinner. We were seated for dinner and our wait person, while smiling, made us feel again like we were not welcome. We were treated so rudely that I was afraid to eat the food. This happened again the next evening with a different wait person. Needless to say we ate dinner out the remaining nights. We only ate at the resort during the day which was a buffet and we could serve ourselves. The only thing the staff needed to serve was tea or coffee and that was a chore trying to flag someone down to even provide tea. We have visited 4 different Elite Island Resorts and until the Club Barbados, we have been very pleased. I would return to any of the other Elite Island resorts, but not the Club Barbados due to the lack of customer service, the uneasiness of not feeling welcome and the hard beds.

Where do we start??? Although Barbados is a small island, the transfer time between the airport and the hotel was no more than 40 minutes which is great after a long flight. On arrival you are greeted by the friendly guest services staff which made check in nice and smooth. You are then taken to your room by a bell boy and given a quick room tour. After a short time guest relations made contact to make sure everything was OK which was a nice touch. The food, well what can I say, some of the best food I have eaten and the mix of buffet and a le carte keeps the food interesting. The restaurant staff are attentive and get to know you quickly and you are NOT rushed to leave. Try and make time to visit Enids, the food was fantastic!! We found the bar staff to be extremely friendly and we got to know them quite well as they actually spend their time getting to know the guests (and our drinking) habits whilst still giving an excellent service. For an all-inclusive resort, the drink measures are great also and the entertainment fantastic, the Monday evening entertainment seemed to be a great hit. Even the staff joined in :-). If I had to pick a negative, sun loungers. I had to get up around 06:30 most morning to get decent sun loungers (with umbrellas) and it was frustrating to see sun loungers being reserved and people not using them until mid-day or not turning up at all. I think this needs to either be policed or more umbrellas provided. Overall, the resort made it a fantastic holiday, I would certainly recommend The Club and hope to return one day and we plan to other Elite Island Resorts after a great experience at The Club.

Loved it here as the Hotel offers so much, whilst still maintaining the personal touch with friendly and helpful staff. We joined walks, aqua aerobics, cooking demos and also boat rides and snorkelling but we also enjoyed strolls along the beach with a snorkel just offshore to see lots of colourful fish of all shapes and sizes. I have stayed in resorts that are too big, crowded and impersonal , and holidays that are maybe a bit too isolated and quiet, but The Club finds the perfect balance. So much to do/experience- you will want to return. They are closing for a 3 month refurbishment in June, so it will only get better.

My wife and I decided to try the Club Barbados Hotel for 10th anniversary. What a great experience that's value for money! We had great food great customer friendly service excellent night-time entertainment water sport activities. I will however suggest that they have dedicated smoking areas this is the only low point about our visit. Thanks so very much for making our anniversary special. Special thank you goes to Jemima.

Pleasant but some things to be aware of that fall short...

Clean room, food generally ok but buffets get repetitive, nice pools, overall 'pleasant'. However you need to expect the following; There is basically no large sandy beach but a small sand area which you cannot sit on, wading and shallow swimming only, you can have sun loungers overlooking the sea but these are on a rather nasty concrete area with gritty sand sprinkled on top. About half the staff are generally pleasant, but half just aren't happy to see you/serve, way too many are sultry and uninviting, shame in such a nice place, needs management guidance/training? Speaking of management, so sign of any duty manager walking round, checking on guests and what to improve, manager was invisible. Sunbeds start getting bagged from 06.30 so if you have a favorite spot you simply have to join the early scramble! Wifi was a huge issue, its only free in reception and the restaurant, step outside these and no signal unless you pay $50 for room wifi, utterly ridiculous and annoys everyone, should be included! Finally the watersports are hit and miss, dependent on tides and whether the staff can be bothered to get boats out, we never saw the paddle boards or kayaks ever used and when asked several times for them we're simply told 'not today' whilst we looked at them stacked up behind their hut. The single daily turtle boat tour was 'booked for a week' so this forces you to use the tout that's always present waterfront and pay for the trip, bit of a scam - do more turtle trips!
